For though from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar —Alfred Tennyson- The editor of the Record went to Chalybeate Springs Tuesday after noon to assist in the funeral ser vice for D. B. Andrews, prominent business man and active church worker of that section. Miss Cleo Denton is now em ployed in Frank Kannan’s store, tak ng the place formerly held by Miss Hildreth Parker. Miss Den ton had for some time been work ing in Raleigh. Mrs. Paul Wright and baby daughter of Raleigh are spending this week with the M. B- Cham blees. Little Hazel Herring is al so visiting her grandparents. Mrs. Gene Utley and son, of Kin ston, and Mrs. Craven Brown, of Durham, have returned to their homes after visit ng their sister, Mrs. Allen Pippin, here. Forrest Alford is improving in Rex hospital, but must stay there for probably seven weeks more and then may have to undergo another operation before returning home. Late news says pneumonia has set in and Mr. Alford’s condition is grave. The C. G. Weathersbys are at home again. Mr. Weathersby has been to Georg a on a business trip and Mrs. Weathersby with Charles Allen, visited relatives in Clover, Va. Mrs. Guy Massey and Mr W. T. Ferrell, grade-parents for Wake lon’s seniors, entertained the class at a barbecue supper on the lawn of the Massey home Saturday ev ening of last week. Members of the high school faculty were also guests on this pleasant occasion. Miss Mary Frances White was home for Sunday from Moore-Her ring hospital, Wilson, where she is in training. The O. M. Marshbums of Rocky Mount weTe guest* of the G- 3- Barbees on Wednesday evening of this week. The Roy Harrises and children spent from Friday until Tuesday with Mr. Harris’ parents in Ply mouth. Club Dinner At Flowers Home With Mrs. W. C. Campen as joint hostess Mrs. C'. E. Flowers was hostess to the Double Eight Bridge club on Monday evening of this week. Dinner was served in the lovely garden of the Flowers home. Mrs. F. D- Finch made high score for ladies, while I. D. Gill led men’s scores. Mrs. P. L. Cashwell enjoyed a weekend visit from her sister, Miss 1 Ellen Marie Sears of Roxboro. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Harper and ch ldren. of Warsaw, are in Zebu lon at the home of Mrs. Harper’s parents, the J. D. Finches. Mrs. L. M. Massey assisted Mrs- Lee Parker in receiv ng at a tea given last Saturday at the Carolina Country Club in honor of Mrs- Thad Eure and Misses Dorothy Deane Brown of Ahoskie and Ma ry oLig Parker, of Woodland. Also atending from Zebulon were Mes dames W. D. Spencer and Wallace Chamblee. Mesdames R. E. Pipp n and C. V. Whitley were hostesses recent ly at the home of the latter to members of Wakelon's faculty and others. Mascots Entertain Zebulon, April 24. —The Wakelon senior class mascots, Mary Sue Long and Bobby Gill entertained the seniors and high school facul ty Friday evening. As the guests entered they were served punch by Mrs. Rurlc Gill. Miniature corsages of sweetpeas were given the guests- A game of bingo was enjoyed. Miss Lena Liles and Theodore Mit chell received the prizes. Little Miss Helen Glover, from Cornth-Holder, accompanied by her teacher, Mrs. Bill Gordon, exe cuted tap dancing. The party was then turned into an informal dance. Music was fur nished by Miss Meryl Massey. The editor and Mrs. Davis appre ciate an invitation from Miss Ro berta Martin to attend the grad uating exercises at Wendell High School on the night of May sth- Miss Martin is one of the members o fthe senior class. Among other ex tra curricular work she has been editor of the schpol news for the year, and the Gold Leaf Farmer has meant more to school patrons be cause of school items it contained Miss Martin also plays clarinet in the school band. Miss Gladys Yancey is valedic torian of the senior class at Wen dell high school. Mrs. R. H. Brantley is able to be out some after having been kept in for more than two weeks with a badly sprained ankle. J. L. Oliver, of the Chatham News, was a visitor in the Record office on Monday of this week. Mr. and Mrs. D- M. Hood of Zeb ulon attended a birthday dinner Sunday at the home of Mr. S. T. Davis, given in honor of him and Mrs. W. A. Adcock. Mr. Mac Faison who has been engaged by one of the larger drug manufacturing concerns to distrib ute their products, and w’ho was to have gone to work n the fifth of this month is being held up due to a strike in the Chicago plant. He expects to go on duty in the near future. BIRTHDAY DINNER On Sunday, April 25th the chil dren and relatives of Mr. S. T. Dav is and Mrs. W A. Adcock gave them a surprise birthday dinner at the home of Mr. Davis. The table bore a large pink and white decorat ed cake with the inscription ‘Hap py Bithday Sam and Mary’. The dinner consisted of barbecue and bran-, rick stew. All kinds of sand wiches, cakes, pies, chicken salad, and ice tea. Special guests were Dr. Lawrence of Raleigh; Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Hes ter, Wendell; Rev. and Mrs L. R. Evans, Knightdale; Mr. Woodard of Kn gthdale School. There were 81 present. The honcrees reecived many nice gifts- BIRTHDAY PARTY Charles Harris Rhodes celebrat ed his fifth birthday on Friday af ternoon, April 23, entertain ng sev eral of his litle friends- Lemon ade was served to the guests as they arrived, after which games were played and contests enjoyed. Birthday cake and ice cream were served in the house to George Riggsbee Massey, Billy Brantley, Leonard Seawell, Bobby G 11, Emily Rose ETantley, Betty and Odell Rawls, Norma Fay Gill, Ruth Brown, Rob Bell, Laura James Sexton, Tommy Temple, Collins Pippin, Mack Hocutt, Jean Phil lips, Suzy Ann Bunn, and Clara Joyce Rhodes. BIRTH Born to Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Faulkner, Zebulon, R. 3, a girl, on Wednesday morning, April 21. Mother and baby both doing well. Baby’s name: A1 ce Faye. PATIENTS AT DUKE HOSPITAL Durham, N. C., April 29 Sev enty-five counties of the state made the lot of patients in Duke hospital easier during the past year by ass sting in their care. The help given by counties ranged from $2 to more than $9,000, according to the number of patients sent from each county. The hospital’s report show’s that $509,797.80 was spent on patients or $4.51 for each patient each day. Patients themselves w 7 ere able to pay but 53.1 percent of their hospi tal expenses- Nearly $23,000 was , paid for them by the r home coun ties. Patients from Wake county weTe given 4,383 days of care, of which $11,123.05 was paid by patients themselves, SIIB.BO by the county or city, $288.10 by others, and SB,- 237.38 by Duke hospital. 9th GRADE ENTERTAINED Mrs. Eugene Jones, grade-moth er of Mrs. Wilson’s section of the ninth grade at Wakelon, entertain ed them at her Wakefield home on Saturday night of last week. On arival punch was served and seftts were found at nine tables ar ranged for playing: hearts. Games were also played during the even ing, after which the hostess served ice cream and cake. • This is the eighth consecutive year that Mrs. Jones has been grade-mother for these same chil dren. HOCK ADA Y-PEARCE Mrs. Marcia Pearce of Zebulon announces the marriage of her daughter Norine to Willard W. Hockaday, Jr of Raleigh on Sat urday, April 24, in Halifax, Va. Pleasant Hill News We are sorry to report Mrs. B. F. Weathers who has been ill for several weeks was taken to Mary Elizabeth Hosp ital last Sunday. Born to Mr and Mrs- B ll Agans a son, April 25. Mrs. Agans was formerly Miss Erselle Starnes. Messrs. Lennie Williford, T. Y. and A. O. Puryear, motored to Plymouth and other points east last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Puryear and children and Mr. and Mrs- T. E. Puryear of Wake Forest were visi tors at T. Y.
