But now that bitter sorrow lives with me, And now that happiness has passed me by, I have no words to speak to ease my heart; I have no tears to shed; my eyes are dry. Miss Anna Beryie Pearee of Nor folk, Va., spent last week w th her parents and friends in and around Zebulon and in Raleigh. She was accompanied by Miss Pearl Parsons of Portsmouth, Va. Mary Frances Cockrell is one of the many girls chosen throughout North Carolina to sponsor the Hal Kemp dance in Tarboro, N. C. Robert Kemp Horton has been • init ated into Phi Beta Kappa, na tional scholastic fraternity, at Cha pel Hill. He has also been elected a house president for next year at the university, and was an honor student for the quarter just ended. Miss Rose Baer was one of the honorees at a party given on Fri day evening of last week by Miss Pearl Baer in the Woman's Club at Dunn. • ——— , Mrs. —. —. Gainey had the mis fortune on last Friday to break her arm in two places. She was driving some chickens from her flower beds when a hen ran between her feet, . tripping her and causing her to fall Mrs- Lou Wheless was here for the weekend and her sister, Mrs. F. H. McGuire, who is not at all well at present. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Thurston of Clayton were here Sunday to visit their daughter, Mrs. W. D. Spencer. Mr. Ivey, employe of the C. P. & L moved his family here this week * from Florence, S. C. They will oc cupy the downstairs apartment of the house recently vacated by the T. E. Blounts. Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Henry and daughters, Joyce Anne and Emma Jean, of Selma, were in Zebulon for a while Sunday afternoon. Rev. A. A. Pippin and Mrs. Pip pin spent Tuesday with their daughter, Mrs. W. C. Strowd, in Louisburg. > Mrs. L. M. Massey visited Mrs. J. D. Nelms in Nashville during the first part of this week. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Johnson and daughter, Louise, of Lumberton came tc Zebulon on Wednesday of last week and spent two days with Mrs. Johnson’s parents, the Pitt man Stells. On Friday they lelt for Richmond to visit the M- E. Sham • burgers. Dr. A. G. Horton of Norfolk, Va., Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Bush of Chapel Hill, and Daniel and Ransom Hoyle of Whitakers were week end guests of the C. S, Charfl)Jres. Mrs. Ted Davis, who has been in Mary Elizabeth Hospital, Raleigh, for treatment during the past five weeks is slowly responding to the treatment of prontolin injections. It is hoped that she will be able to return home in a few days J. E. Gill has gone to Baltimore to work, jo ning his brother, S. P. Gill, who has been in that city for some time. Mrs. J. L. Stell has been confined to her home by illness this week. She is much better at this time. Miss Young has re turned to Raleigh after v siting her sister, Mrs. Bernice Bunn, here. Mike Eddins has enlisted in the United States Naval Service and leaves this week for Hampton Roads for preliminary tra ning.
