God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law. Katherine Lee Bates. Carscy Lee Tippett, son of Joe Tippett, has enlisted in the U S. Navy and has been sent to the Training Station at Norfolk for preliminary work before being transferred elsewhere. Much Reading Done Mrs. Andrew Jones reports that increased interest in the library at the Woman’s Club is being shown since it is being kept open on Sat urday afternoons. She says the magazines that are given away are gladly received and thinks this work an important part of the pro ject for the summer. Mrs. Rena Young and grandson, Billy Bunn, have returned from a week’s, stay with Mrs. Young’s daughter, Mrs. Ray, near Leesville. Miss Gertrude Young of Raleigh returned home Sunday after spend ing some days here with her sis ter, Mrs. Bernice Bun. Miss Sadie Fleming, in Raleigh for the summer, was. here for the weekend with her sister, Mrs. C. V. Whitley. Mrs. Wallace Chamblee is home agains after staying for several weeks with her sister, Mrs. Fred Josey, and other relatives in Geor gia Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Glover and daughters visited Mrs. Glover’s aunt, Mrs. C. E. Upchurch in Rich mond, Va., during the weekend. Mrs. Upchurch has for some time been quite sick, having suffered a stroke of paralysis- Miss Cleo Glover spent a part of the time of her stay in Richmond with Miss Betsy Shamburger. Donald Massey’s name was omit ted by mistake last week from the list of boys who went on the hiking trip to Clifton’s Pond. Their daughter, Joan, remained fotr a longer stay with her cousin, Mar garet Marshburn. R. D. Covington, treasurer of the Baptist Orphanage at Thomasville, was in Zebulon on Monday of this week to confer with the editor of the Record with reference to data relative to the celebration of the relative to the celebration on next Sunday of the twenty-fifth anni versary of the opening of the Ken nedy Memorial Home, eastern branch of the orphanage. Dr. and Mrs. L. M. Massey with their daughter, Carolyn, went to Hookerton last Sunday. Dr. Massey returned that night, but Mrs. Mas sey and Carolyn stayed until Wed nesday. Mrs.. Pattie Harris arrived in Zeb ulon on last Saturday for a stay with her daughtr, Mrs. F. D. Finch. Miss Martha Glazener of Hen dersonville was a guest of Miss Jocelyn House at lunch Monday. Miss Glazener is a graduate of Mer edith College and will be teacher of history at Wakelon next term. She expects to direct athletics for girls, is much interested in church w’ork. and has a very pleasing personali ty. Such teachers are an asset to a community. Miss Josephine Turner of Clinton a former Meredith graduate who has been conducting a Sunday School Revival at Wakefield Bap tist church, spent the weekend with Jocelyn House. Miss Curlena Godfrey of Hen derson spent Sunday with Jocelyn House. Julian W. Bunn of Raleigh, was a weekend guest of Ralph House He attended the dance then accom panied Mr. House and Ralph to Carolina Beach where Ralph was employed as clerk of Grey Stone Hotel. Thomas Jefferson House of Ral eigh was a guest in the home of his uncle, Mr. A. R. House, Monday night. Mrs. Tom Richards of Durham, who is spending her vacation with her sister, Mrs. W\ H. Strickland, Wilson, visited, Mrs. R. R. Creech the first part of the week. Mrs. Strickland accompanied her to Zebulon. Here for the Temple-McMullen wedding Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs- J. N. Perry, Mrs.. W. E. Bed dingfield, Cal McMullen, Miss No lia Sykes, and Miss Virginia Weath ers of Bunn; Miss Othell McMullen, Miss Lorraine White and Mr. Johnson of Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Binton and four children have moved here from Myrtle Beach, S. C., and are occu pying the lower floor of the house formerly known as the Davis home. Mr. Binton is an employee of C. P. & L. Co. Charles Flowers, Jr., and Charles Whitley left on Wednesday for Camp Junaluska, where the former will be one of the camp counselors. Billy Brantley, son of the R. H. Brantleys, was not big enough for the hiking trip last week, but he celebrated his sixth birthday with Bobby Bridgers, Norma Fay Gill, Bobby Gill, Mary Sue Long, Ruth Brown, Becky Clark, Odell Rawls* Laura James Sexton, Mary Fisher Finch, Catherine Cashwell, Collins Pippin, Allen Hinton, James Deb nam and Rob Evil to help him. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Hood spent Sunday in Raleigh with Mr. and Mrs. L. L- Browning. Master Allen Hood accompanied them home after spending the wekend w T ith his aunt Mrs. Browning. Jewell Lee and Mary Alice Hood spent the weekend in Wendell with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Adcock. The three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Privette is. im proving after suffering an attack of colitie. Ruric Gill, on vacation from his regular work, is on jury duty in Raleigh this week. Here for the Temple-McMullen wedding Sunday were Dr. Irby Hoyle and Thurston Hoyle of Hen derson. Mr- and Mrs. L. R. Temple gave a barbecue dinner last Sunday at Leon Pearce’s mill, special guests being their son, Russell, his bride, and a number of relatives and friends here for the marriage. Mr. and Mrs- Roderick Harris and I baby were here for the weekend with the F. D. Finches. They will visit relatives at Fountain before returning to their home at Roa noke, Va. Mishew Anne Harris of Lumber ton is spending this week in the home of her aunt, Mrs. F. D. Finch. Mrs Baer arrived from Alabama on Monday to spend some time with her daughter. Miss Rose Baer. With Mrs. Baer was her daughter, Miss Frances Baer, and son, Irvin Baer. James Creech has entirely re covered from a recent short spell of illness. He does not have tu berculosis as was reported, specia lists having assured him that his lungs are sound. Mrs- L. T. Jones has for the sec ond time won a bicycle offered for covers from Blue Horse writing tablets. Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Creech, Mr. Arthur Creech, Mrs. Wade Lee and Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Creech and family are spending their summer vacation down in Atlanta, Ga., with Mr. and Mrs. Jack- Creech. They will be home after the 4th- TEM PLE-McM U LLEN The wedding of Miss Helen Lyn delle McMullen of Zebulon to Lo- Tenzo Russel Temple of Raleigh which was solemnized at the Zebu lon Eraptist Church Sunday morn ing June 27th. at ten o’clock came as a surprise to the Sunday School. On the chancel several baskets of Queen Anne’s lace, gladioli and hydrangeas were usea against a background of ferns and ever greens. Mrs. John D. Horton played the -nuptial music. Jack Temple, broth er of the bridegroom sang “I Love You Truly” and “O Promise Me”. The bridal chorus from Lohengrin was played for the processional and Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” as the recessional “In dian Love Call” was softly played during the ceremony. The bride and bridegroom en tered the church together and were met at the Altar by the Reverend R. H. Herring, who performed the ceremony. The bride wore a dress of navy marquesette with front paneling of white cutwork embroidery with navy accessories. Her flowers were white roses and valley lilies. Mrs. Temple is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Beddingfield of 1 Bunn. She is a graduate of the Bunn High School and received her business training at Louisburg Col lege. For the past six years she has made her home in Zebulon where she holds a position with the Zebulon Supply Co. Mr. Temple is the son of Mr and Mrs. L. R. Temple of Zebulon.
