GENERAL NEWS SOAP BOX DERBIES In 120 cities of the United States 200,000 boys between the ages of nine and fifteen will com pete or have competed in soap box derbies this summer. The champion of each city will go to Akron, Ohio on August 15 for the all-American competition. Soap-box racing has been recog nized as a sport for only a few years. The racer must be built by the one who runs it and must not cost more than tten dollars. The first prize in the national event is a four-year college scholarship. Entrants will compete from South America, Hawaii, Mexico and Can ada as well as from cities of this country. R’aleigh is the nearest city having a derby this summer. Chevrolet dealers will supply rule books to boys desiring to enter the races. CAREFUL WITH ELECTRIC FENCES Now that electric current is wide ly available farmers wall be be sought by agents to purchase elec tric fencing. They will be told that the cost will be much less than other fence* which may be true. Unless the electric fencing is man ufactured by a reputable concern, it may be dangerous, because the voltage may not be what is needed. Numerous instances have already been recorded of animals being kill ed by too high a charge in the fenc ing Horses are said to be unable to stand as much shock as other farm beasts. Damp weather also causes charges to be more severe than does dry. MEMORIALS ....I am representative for Warner Memorials, Raleigh, N.
