Prof. Thomas Kemp arrived in Zebulon on Thursday of last week and will be with relatives here un til the opening in September of Lender College, S. C., where he will be at the head of the Depart ment of Music. * Billy Bell, son of the Hunter Bells, went to State Sanitorium last week for a period of rest and ob servation. Visitors in the Theo. Isaacs, formerly of Zebulon is visiting relatives in Booneville, Ky., this being his first trip there for 33 years. He writes: ‘‘Most of the people in Owsley county are re « lated to me. Families of my fath- ' er’s and mother’s people are indeed large and they wait in droves to see me.’’ Miss Becky Knight of Rocky Mt., visited Mrs. Eugene Privette re cently, returning to her home Sun day. Misses Lois Watson of Albemarle and Elizabeth Kennedy of Oxford visited Miss Inez Pitts last week. Miss Pitts is leaving in a few days for her school work in Stanly coun ty where she will begin teaching next Monday. Miss Edna Earle Sexton, Lucy, Frances Massey, and Martha Bai ley Flowers are attending a house party at Myrtle Beach this week. *The C. V. Whitleys and Nancy returned last week from Myrtle Beach, from which place they went to Camp Junaluaka for their son, Charles, and bapk by Boonrille for a night with Mrs. Whitley's parents ,the M. V. Flemings. Dr. and Mrs. L. M. Massey and . Carolyn left last Sunday for a stay at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Ida Hall left on Monday to spend a few days at Seven Springs. Joe Knott has been for a week in Duke hospital for treatment. He is thought to be making progress toward recovery. On Friday they were entertained at dinner in the home of the W. C. Campens. Will Wiggs arrived last week to visit his mother, Mrs. W. L. Wiggs and other relatives here. Graham Conn returned on Sun day from Duke hospital, where he had been for two weeks for treat ment. He underwent an operation for sinus trouble and had his ton sils removed. His back was put in a plaster cast in an effort to cor rect a trouble which has caused pain for some time. He is still wholly confined to bed, but is im proving. Mr. and Mr*. J. W. Chamblee and two children spent the weekend with their father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Chamblee. Captain J. W. Keys of Raleigh was a business caller in town Tues day. For a number of years he was a conductor on the Norfolk Southern railroad and also for a time trainmaster. Christine Conn spent last week at White Lake returning home on Sunday night. Mrs. Wiiliard Gill attended the funeral and burial of her grand father, Mr. Creech, in Johnston county last Saturday. The birthday of Mrs. Dora Mas sey was, celebrated last week with a family reunion and a barbecue dinner at the home of her son, Ormond Massey at Wakefield. Mrs. Wallace Temple was taken to Mary-Elizabeth hospital this week for treatment. Frederick Page entertained a number of friend* on Tuesday af ternoon in celebration of his birth day. Swimming was enjoyed, fol lowed by a watermelon feast. Mr. arid Mrs. Howard Bunn and daughter Margaret, attended the annual McEwen reunion at Clark ton last Sunday. C. S. Chamblee has returned from Wrightsville Beach where he at tended a meeting of directors of farmer cooperative credit associa tions. Mr. Chamblee stated that reports show an increase in the vol ume of business done by the associ ations, loans in North Carolina last year amounting to $6,000,000. All loans are made for agricultural purposes and all associations are strictly cooperative. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Harris and children, returned Tuesday from Plymouth where they spent a few days with the parents of Mr. Harris. Mr. Harris was in Manteo Thursday and Friday to attend a meeting of the executive committee of the Southern Albemarle Associa tion. I married to Mr. J. Jeff Crowder of Raleigh in the Methodist church at eight o’clock on the morning of I July tenth. The pastor, Rev. J. W. Bradley officiated. There were no attendants. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Crowder left for unannounced points on a j bridal trip. They are now at home in Raleigh. For her wedding the bride wore a costume of navy blue with acces sories and corsage harmonizing. Here from other towns for the ceremony were: Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Raynor, Henderson; Mr. and Mrs. Short Collie, Miss Ermin ea and Thelma Collie, of Spring Hope. Mrs. Crowder is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Parker of Zeb ulon. Mr. Crowder is in business in Raleigh.
