Mrs. Dan Berry of Swanquarter arrived last Saturday to visit in the home of her brother, E. C. Daniel. Bobby Horton has returned to his work after spending ten days here with his mother, Mrs. J. D. Horton. Mrs. Lou Wheless of Wake For est visited her sister, Mrs. F. H. McGuire, and Mrs. J. D. Horton Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Bunn with F. E. Jr., and Miss Margaret Bunn spent the weekend in Lumberton with Mrs. Revah Ford. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Johnson and daughter, Louise, of Lumberton re turned home Monday after visit ing Mrs. Johnson’s parents, the Pittman Stells, here. A card from Frank Hodge cor rects an error of ours, made a few weeks ago. Frank left here for the Naval Training Station, Hampton Roads on June 19th instead of the 25th. Horton Jeanette and Rebecca Ruth Hortor spent last week-end at Moreheac City. Mrs. Robert Turner and daugh ter Judith have returned to New York City after visiting her sister Mrs. Oris Horton. Friends here will be glad to know Mrs. Roy G. Smarr of Columbia, S. C. (formerly Miss Bertha An derson) is improving slowly. Mrs.| Oris Horton visited her during her' serious illness* Mrs. Jonah Alford has been brought home after a stay in Mary. Elizabeth Hospital. She may have to return later for an operation after her strength is built up.. MRS. TEMPLE HONORED Mrs. L. E. Long entertained last week honoring Mrs. Russel Tem ple ,a recent bride, formerly Miss Helen McMullen. Verbenna, zinnias and gladioli made an effective background for three tables of bridge. Mrs. Rayo Senter received high score prize. Mrs. John Liles of Sanford, guest prize, and to the honoree a cheese dish was given. The hostess served congealed salad with sandwiches and coffee Mrs. W. H. Strickland of WilsoH with her daughter, Miss Elaine anfl son, h rederick, is visiting in Zell ulon this week. I Miss Ruby Dawson is back at ] her work in the postoffice after a pleasant vacation at Myrtle Beach. I Graham Conn has improved suf ficiently from his recent illness to be able to ride and to take short walks. His back must remain in the cast for several weeks more. Mrs. Irby Gill with her little daughter, Joellen, went this week to visit her parents at Ransomville. ! They were accompanied by Mrs. Victoria Gill. Mr. Baer, proprietor of the local Baer and Sons store arrived Mon day w 7 ith his son, Sam, from Ala bama. Mr. Baer and his family will make their home here permanently. I Mrs. Ted Davis has improved some recently after having had a slight setback by the hot weather of two w T eeks ago. Mrs. Davis’ tem perature is being kept at almost norma] by use of prescribed medi cines and she has gained two pounds. While she is still unable to see company and is confined en tirely to her bed, it is thought that she has taken a turn for the bet ter and that she will soon be able to be up some and receive visitors. While there he car ried his sister, Mrs. J. C. Council, to the Baptist hospital in Winston and also attended the dedication of | the Westfield aßptist church. J C. V.
