ABC STORE SUCCESS (Continued from page two) end. Since these stores are not pri marily operated for gainful suc cess, but to control by limitation the use of drink, then the logical thing to do is to make the setup , such that every possible means will be put in operation to hinder, dis count and curtail the selling and use of liquor. If the wets were sincere in want ing ABC stores to regulate liquor through a system which would lead to temperance and ultimately total abstinence, than no user of the stuff should have anything what ever to do with its sale through county means and methods. A clerkship was offered to a spendid citizen of our town and he refused it. We were not surprised. A consistent dry would not have the job under any circumstances, and the county is having a hard time getting the type of men needed to make the ABC stores accomplish their proclaimed and desired end. Recorder’s Court Only about six cases were pass ed on by local Recorder’s Court on Wednesday, yet it took the whole day. Guess it was just too hot for Judge Rhodes to rush things. Here they are with all the aches and pains left out except those that have not been yet: John Holland was driving a high way truck along the road below the Zebulon cemetery while he thought of impersonal matters or more indefinite things. Three lit tle Negroes were also travelling along that part of life’s road John hit one, missed two and went on his way, unconscious of the damage done to one little Negro boy. For nearly three months the boy was being rebuilt in a hospital. The 'court declared John guilty of reck less driving and sentenced him to keep his job working for the state for 60 days without pay. Then changed the sentence to a fine of $25.00 and costs. Herbert Shearon felt the respon sibilities of a family too heavy and tried to evade them, being charged with abandonment. The judge said that was enough to justify Her bert’s working for the state for about 18 months. Then, remember ing the wife and children who would be no better off than before, he said “get a job that will provide $7.50 a month for the support of your children from Aug. 7 and keep on doing it till I tell you to stop’’ And—“further, get some one to give a justified bond that you car ry out the orders of this court.” Julius Moss wanted to help de prive Wake county of some of its ABC store revenue, so got some thing better or worse than the county sells to make its citizens feel good or bad as they may de sire. It's terrible for little brother to sneak and do what big brother does and good old Wake frowns on even a colored citizen’s horning in on its monopoly. So Julius was stuck for 30 days of hot August weather sweating out his bootleg inclination on the state highways, j Vernon Reed was accused of I breaking and entering some one’s domicile, home or something of the ; sort. The judge found that Vernon j probably did just what the warrant asserted, so he was bound over to j the Wake County Superior Court under a S2OO bond. Ernest Williams may have heard about how Julius was raking in the sheckles from the sale of boot leg liquor for he seemed to haxe tried to beat the county at its bus i iness. But “it just can’t be did”. The court gave him his choice be tween working the highways for 60 days or pay a fine of $25.00, the costs of the case and remain (which | means begin now) of good behav ior for the next two years. C. H. Hagwood was accused by the court of false pretense and dis posing of mortgaged property. Af ter listening to the evidence the court seemed undecided, so reserv ed judgment till the September term. ADMINISTRATOR’S NOTICE Having qualified as Administra tor of the estate of Charlie E.
