Mrs. C. E. Flowers entertained
at luncheon on Friday of last
week, guests being Mrs. J. A.
Strickland of Blowing Rock and
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Campen.
On Sunday evening in the out
door livingroom at the C. E. Flow
ers home a chicken barbecue sup
per was enjoyed with Dr. and Mrs.
Ivan Proctor of Raleigh and Dr.
and Mrs. G. S. Barbee as guests.
Charles Flowers, Jr., has left
Camp Junaluska, where he was a
counselor, and is now at Blowing
Rock. He is expected home the lat
ter part of this week.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. White have
temporarily closed their home here
and are staying with Mrs. White’s
mother, Mrs. L. M. Jones, in Wen
dell. Mr. White is supervsing the
saving of Mr. Jones’ tobacco crop.
Philip Massey is at the Veteran’s
Hospital in Norfolk, where he is
taking treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Zollie Culpepper
have moved into their newly pur
chased home. The Carlyles, who
were occupying the house prior to
its sale to the Culpeppers, have
moved to Rocky Mount.
B. G. Mattox Supervisor of the
Farmers Cooperative Exchange in
Johnston County, was in the Record
office on Monday of this week.
Miss Vida Bell is at home after
attending summer school at E. C.
T. C. and spending a week in a
Wilson hospital for treatment.
Mrs. Hunter Bell went on Mon- ;
day to Rex Hospital for an opera
tion for appendicitis and probably
other operations for other troubles.
She expects to be able to return to
her work at the playgorund in
about a month. During her illness
a substitute will have charge of the
work with the children.
Mrs. L. C. Futch of Wilmington
and J. B. Dawson of Jacksonville
visited their brother, A. C. Dawson,
here for several days this week.
From here they plan to visit anoth
er brother at Nashville.
Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Chamblee
and son, Horace, of Ashville are
spending this week with Mr. Cham
blee’s parents, the W. H. Chamblees
Mr. Bayard Chamblee was in the
Record office on Monday to renew
his subscription to the home paper. 1
Mrs. Mamie Kimball has had a
delightful vacation, a part of which
was spent at Myrtle Beach and a
part in Marion, S. C. She was ac
companied home by her daughter.
Miss Marie Kimball, who will be
here for a visit before returning to
Marion where she is principal of
a school.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Bridgers
went on Sunday to Greenville to
visit their daughter, Miss Lorraine,
who is attending summer school at
ECTC. With them on the return
trip were their daughter, Miss Ru
by Bridgers, and Miss Ruth Mas
sey. who had gone to Greenville a
few days earlier.
Chief of Police Cone has return
ed to his duties after a week's va
cation.
Meredith Weathers of Langley
Field, Va., was home for a visit
last week with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Haywood Weathers of Knight

who attended the reunion of the
descendants of Alfred Sledge at
the home of T. A. Harris near
Wake Forest last Sunday. Approxi
mately 150 were present and a
carefully arranged program was
carried out.
M rs. Temple Complimented
Mrs. L. M. Massey entertained
recently honoring Mrs. Russel Tern
pie, recent bride. Bridge was play
ed at four tables, Miss Ruby Daw
son winning high score. Mrs. Avon
Privette won the floating prize and
Mrs. Temple was presented a piece
of crystal in her chosen pattern, j

with sandwiches and tea.
Mrs. Ed V. Richardson of Rose
Dale Manor, Wendell, passed
through Zebulon Tuesday enroute
to Bailey stopped in at the Record
office long enough to tell us that
“the RECORD gets better and bet
ter.”
Mrs. Ted Davis is recovering
from a slight cold contracted last
Monday.
Mrs. Ed. V. Richardson and
daughters, Ann and Caroline, and
son, Harvey, grand daughter, Bar
bara Earle Harris of Durham ar
rived home Saturday afternoon af
ter a pleasant week in New York
and other northern points.
Letha Mae, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Simpson is spending
this week at Pine Bluff attending
girls’ camp week.
Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Finch, Dave
Finch and Mrs. Pattie Harris were
dinner guests in the N. B. Finch
home in Spring Hope on Wednes
day evening. Dave Finch remained
in Spring Hope to visit Baxter
Finch the rest of the week.
Mrs. Pattie Harris accompanied
Mrs. Fountain and Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Hunt to the Hunt home in
Greensboro last Sunday, where
they were met by Mrs. Fountain’s
daughter, Mrs. Roderick Harris,
who is also Mrs. Harris’ daughter
in-law, and who, with her baby
daughter accompanied them home.
Mrs. R. Harris is spending this
week with her parents at Virginia
Beach.
Charles and Louis Allison, arrived
on Tuesday to spend several days
with her classmate, Mrs. C. V.
Whitley.
Mrs. C. V. Whitley was hostess
to the Wednesday Afternon Club
and other special guests at the reg
ular meeting this week.
M iss Frankie Hall is visiting a
friend in Annapolis, Md. Before re
turning home she will visit her
aunt, Mrs. Evelyn Morrow, in
Washington, D. C.
The Eugene Privettes have mov
ed into the upstairs apartment of
the F. D. Finch home, recently va
cated by the William Lees. The Le
roy Harrises, who bought the house
from which the Privettes moved,
now occupy it.
MRS. ELLA DANIEL
Mrs. Ella Daniel, aged 55, died
at her home on Monday of this
week and was buried on Wednes
day after services at New Bethel
church. She was the wife of W. A.
Daniel and the stepmother of E. C.
Daniel of Zebulon Drug Co. Sur
viving besides her husband are four
children by a former marriage: Ed
ward Clark, A. D. Clark, and Mrs.
C. W. Ryals and Graham Clark.

SHOWERS FOR RECENT BRIDE
Mrs. W. L. Saunders and Mrs.
Milton H. Saunders were hostesses
Saturday night, July 31st, at their
home at a miscellaneous shower in
honor of Mrs.) Raleigh Sherron, re
cent bride, formerly Miss Vauda
Saunders.
The guests were met by Miss
Erminee Dew and registered in
the bride’s book. Then went into
the living room. Pink roses and
mixed garden flowers made a pret
ty setting.
All wrote wishes in the bride’s
book. Several contests were enjoy
ed. Mrs. Paul Strickland and Mrs.
Brooks Dew were winners of the
prize.
Little June Stallings, niece of
the honoree, pulled into the room a
green draped wagon of gifts, which
were presented to Mrs. Sherron.
Goodbyes were said by Mrs. W.
L. Saunders and Mrs. Milton H.
Saunders. The honoree was the
recipient of many lovely gifts.
On Thursday night, August sth,
Mrs. W. T. Sherron was hostess at
a miscellaneous shower honoring
Mrs. Raleigh Sherron, formerly
Miss Vanda Saunders at her home
in Wakefield.
The guests were met by Miss Do
ris Sherron and registered in the
bride’s book, then went into the
living room. Gladiolas and mixed
garden flowers made a pretty set
ting.
Several contest* were enjoyed;
Horton were prize winners. They
in turn presented the prize to the
honoree. Each guest wrote wish
es for the bride. After which little
Catherine Anne Sherron and Joyce
Young dressed in long party dress
es entered the living room pulling
a wagon draped in pink and green
crepe paper loaded with gifts and
asked the honoree to help them un
load the wagon. Mrs. Sherron was
the reeepient of many beautiful
and useful gifts.
Punch and cake was served by
Misses Doris and Melba Sherron.
