By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer’s best of weather, And autumn’s best of cheer. —Helen Hunt Jackson, v Mrs. Ted Davis was brought to the home of Mrs. Twitt Ramsey on Saturday of last week from Duke Hospital where physicians agreed proper treatment could be administered as well at home as at the hospital. Miss Frances Ramsey is her nurse. Mr. and Mrs. John Hunt and daughters of Charlotte spent Sun day here with Mrs. A. J. Hunt. C. N. Nelson and Louis Riggsbee of Durham were in Zebulon on Monday of this week on business matters. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lee and chil dren of Smithfield spent the week end with the W. H. Chamblees. r Philip F. Massey has returned from the Veteran’s Hospital at Newport News, Va., improved in health after an operation and treatment. Miss Vera Belle Lloyd has re turned to Broklyn, N. Y. after a two weeks visit with friends in Virginia Beach, Baltimore and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Lloyd of Youngsville. Misses Ruth Greene, Kay Kemp, Mary Gray Pippin, and Margaret Fowler left Tuesday for Meredith College. His members and other friends will be interested in the following post card message from Rev. J. Preaching and sacrament next Sunday 11:00 and 8:00. Greetings to all. * DEATH Mrs. Mary Jones of Youngsville was buried Sunday at Louisburg. She was 79 years old, and a sister to W. H. Chamblee of Zebulon. Mrs. D. D. Chamblee is spend ing a few days in Raleigh with her sister-in-law, Mrs % John Terry, who has been ill. R. L. Isaacs of Raleigh was a bus iness visitor in Zebulon Wednes * day afternoon. SOCIETY MRS. THEO. B. DAVIS, Editor A. C. Dawson, Jr., went on Tues day to Southern Pines where he will be a member of the high school faculty during the school year. Leaving this week for Meredith College were Misses Joselyn House, Eunice Outlaw and Iris Massey, former students there. Mis Meryl Massey, 1937 gradu ate of Wakelon, left on Wednesday to enter Louisburg College. Mrs. A. L. Williams of Clover, Va., is here visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. G. Weathersby. Rev. J. E. Hoyle of Whitakers who is this wek helping Pastor Herman Finch in a meeting at Hol ly Grove, was in the home of his sister, Mrs. L. R. Temple, on Thurs day for dinned, and also dropped in the Record office to greet friends there. Chas. Flowers, Jr., left last Sun day for The Citadel, Charleston, S. C., where he will be a cadet this school year. As proof of his inter est in the home town and home folks Charles wants the Record sent to him while he is away. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hocutt an nounce the birth of a daughter, Ar menia Jane, on Saturday, Sept. 4. Miss Geraldine Massey is giving full time to the work of assisting with preparations for the Fair here the latter part of this month, doing office work. BIRTHDAY PARTY James Debnam son of the M. T. Debnams, celebrated his ninth birthday anniversary last Friday | ! afternoon, being host at a party ; on the lawn of his home. After i games ice cream and cake were 1 served. Brantley, Jr., Billy Brantley, Bobby Bridgers, Latta Marshbourn, Jr., and Frederick Page. ODELL RAWLS HAS PARTY Little Miss Odell Rawls celebrat ed her seventh birthday on Sept. 1 with a party. Games were played on the lawn after which all as sembled in the living room to see Odell open her presents and hear her thanks expressed. Next they went into the diningroom for cake and ice cream served by Mrs. Rawls assisted by Mesdames Pat tie Fuller and William Cheaves. Toasted nuts w T ere served after the cream. Present were: Ruth Brown, Hilda Lewis, Nancy Whitley, Car olyn Massey, Judy and Jean Rob ertson, Dorothy Horton, Dorothy Mizelle, Clara Joyce Rhodes, Betty Jean Gay, Laura Sexton, Maragar et Bunn, Rachel Bunn, Mary Fish er Finch, Eva Modell Pulley, Lou nell Pulley, Mary Alice Conn, Em ma Vic and Norma Faye Gill, Eve lyn Spencer of Bunn, Linda Mas sey of Wendell, Wilbur Conn, Ruric Gill, Jr., Charles Harris Rhodes, George Rigsgby Massey, Jr., Billy Pippin and Ralph Lewis. MRS. M. W. PAGE HONORED On Friday afternoon from 4:30 till 6:00 Mrs. F. L. Page, Jr., was hostess at a lovely tea honoring Mrs. M. W. Page, recent bride. The entire lower floor of the Page home was en suite for the occasion, its beauty enhanced by attractive and colorful arrange- ments of late summer flowers. Guests were greeted at the door by Mrs. C. E. Flowers and were pre sented to the receiving line by Mrs. F. D. Finch. In the line were the hostess, the honoree, Mrs. James Alle, nee Miss Mary Elizabeth Kemp of Zebulon; Mrs. Graham Conn, nee Miss Josephine Mangum of Wake Forest; Mrs. W. R. Har ris of Bluefield, W. Va.; Mrs. Kirk Wharton of Ransomville. Mrs. Irby Gill directed guests to the sun parlor where Mrs. M. W. Chamblee, Miss Ruby Stell and Miss Cornelia Herring presided ov er the bride’s book and registered callers. Mrs. W. D. Spencer directed guests to the diningroom where Mesdames W. C. Campen and L. M. Massey assisted by Mesdames R. H. Brantley and Mcßae Faison poured tea at a table lovely with its cloth of lace and beautiful crys tal centerpiece of pink roses and lace vine flanked by tall pink ta pers in crystal holders. Miss Fran ces Strickland of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Miss Cabel Campen serv ed wafers, mints and nuts. Goodbyes were said at the side entrance by Mrs. C. G. Weathersby and Mrs. G. S. Barbee. Seventy-five guests called KEITH-STEELE On Monday afternon Rev. Theo. B. Davis married Miss Carmetta Steele of Raleigh to Mr. W. E. Keith of Fuquay Springs. The cer emony took place at three o’clock in the afternoon in the home of the officiating minister, and was witnessed by Mr. George Steele, father of the bride, and Mr. and j Mrs. E. B.
