MRS. TED DAVIS
On Saturday of last week Evelyn
Weathers Davis died at the home of
her aunt, Mrs. Twitt Ramsey, in
Knightdale, after suffering for
more than eighteen months with a
complication of dseases. When,
finally, specialists at Duke Hospital
found that nothing could be done
except make her as nearly comfort
able as possible, her father was ill
in Mary-Elizabeth hospital with
pneumonia and she was taken to
her relatives’ home to keep from
her the knowledge of his condition.
Her cousin, Miss Frances Ramsey,
registered nurse, was in constant
attendance, yet the end, when it
came, was so sudden that not even
Mrs. Davis’ uncle, Dr. Rupert
Weathers, living only a few blocks
away, could reach her before life
was gone.
A simple service was held at Hep
hzibah church near Wendell on Sun
day afternoon with Mrs. Davis’ pas
tor, Rev. R. H. Herring, in charge,
assisted by Rev. W. H. Poole, pas
tor of Hephzibah, with burial in the
church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Worth Hinton,
Donald Stallings, C. B. Eddins, Jr.,
Raieigh Alford, Tom Blount, Jr., of
Spring Hope, Lawrence Tracy of
Kinston.
Besides her husband, Theo. B.
Davis, Jr., to whom she was mar
ried Dec. 2, 1933, she is survived
by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. A.
Weathers of Wendell, R. 2; one
brother, Billy Weathers; one sister,
Miss Marjorie Weathers.

THE ZEBULON RECORD, ZEBULON, NORTH CAROLINA, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER SEVENTEENTH, 1937.
ZEBULON ROTARY
The Zebulon Rotary club met on
September 10th, with Paul Cash
well in charge of the program. Mr.
Reynolds, of Raleigh, was the
speaker. His subject was Organi
zation and Work of Boy Scouts. It
certainly would mean much to the
youth if a Scout troop could be or
ganized. There is no record of a
criminal in N. C. prison who was
a Boy Scout.
The club welcomed back their
sweetheart, Miss Dunlap, and she
looked glad to be back, too.
Rotary stands ready to encour
age every worth while project,
whether in town or country, and
especially in rural communities.
Cozy Cottage
Zebulon Supply Store has built a
house inside a house and has
named it Cozy Cottage. The out
side view, with its white walls;
its windows with green blinds hav
ing crescents in the upper part;
its lights each side the inviting
entrance; would attract favorable
comment anywhere, even without
the green lawn that stays within
bounds and has no weeds to mar
its perfection.
Inside are three connecting
rooms. In the center is a spacious
living-room completely furnished,
davenport, chairs, tables, pictures,
rugs, secretary, all matching or
harmonizing. To the right is a
bedroom as ready for occupancy as
if the lady of the house had just for
a minute stepped across to a
neighbor’s; and any lady would
be proud to own such a room. It is
large enough for two styles of bed,
dresser, chest and chairs to be dis
played—sort of as if HE and SHE
had slightly disagreed and each
bought what was preferred; but
the effect is most agreeable.
To the left is a diningroom of
the sort one uses, or would like to
use, when company comes and
meals are served as well as eaten.
You couldn’t think of bad manners
in Surroundings of such dignity and
beauty. But, if you are one of
those who have to cook and eat on
the run, leave the Cozy Cottage
and go upstairs where you’ll find
the kitchen and breakfast-room
outfits that suit your style. It is
surprising to see how much they
do have at Zebulon Supply.
WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS
In China the fighting between
Japanese and Chinese troops is in
its ninth week, and rages more
fiercely as time passes. The Chi
nese are in conflict with an army
of more than 125,000 Japanese and
are defending a battle-line of 100
miles. Both nations are said to be
preparing for months, if not years,
of warfare. American Admiral, H.
E. Yarnell, as spokesman for all
neutral nations, repeated a warn
ing to both Chinese arid Japanese
about endangering lives of non
combatants. Many hundreds of
cases of cholera are known and the
situation grows worse. The Jap
anese envoy at Geneva declared
that his country will brook no in
terference by the League of Na
tions.
Italy has taken offense at the
plans made by other powers to pa
trol the Mediterranean Sea because
of piracy by unknown submarines
and declares that she should have
parity with England and France.
Russia has accused Italy of the pi
racy, while Germany takes sides
with Mussolini.
After ten months of siege insur
gents in Spain have not been able
to take Madrid, the capital city.
