THE ZEBULON RECORD, ZEBULON, NORTH CAROLINA, FRIDAY,SEPTEMBER THE 24TH, 1937 Miss May Collier In High Dive Act Each Nite of Fair The Five County Fair Associa tion considers themselves extreme ly fortunate in getting a last min ute contract with what they believe to be one of America’s most out standing free attractions. For the week of the fair they have contracted for the services of Miss May Collier, said to be the greatest and most sensational lady high-diver in the show world. Miss Collier mounts a lofty lad der advertised as 100 feet in height and makes a head foremost swan dive into a tank said to con tain only 5 feet of water. This act will take place at an advantageous point on the fair grounds both afternoon and night for the duration of the fair. The Three Erwingos, aerial acro bats, have already arrived in Zeb ulon, so there need be no fear that their part of the performance will be ready for the opening of the fair. PAGE JABBO PEARCE A 1904 model curved dash Merry Oldsmobile is believed to have been the first automobile used in the U. S. rural mail delivery service. It was driven by J. J. Radebaugh of North Baltimore, Ohio, who completed more than 30 years of postal service. When Mr. Radebaugh started his first trip as an automobile rural mail carrier on a November morn ing in 1904, more than 200 towns people turned out to witness the rv>vel event and a local photog rapher requested that he pose with the car in front of the post office. Farmers in the locality were very prejudiced against machines on the roads, because they claimed that automobiles frightened not only horses, but people as well.
