Miss Mary Louise Robertson was home from her school work at Coats last week, the school having an enforced vacation because of inadequate water supply. Miss Edna Earle Sexton, Zebu lon, junior in the Woman’s college of Duke university, is one of those whose names are on the dean’s list for the fall semester. These stu dents are granted such privileges as voluntary class attendance, in recognition of their superior scho lastic records. Miss Sexton, daughter of M. J. Sexton, was graduated from Wake lon High School, Zebulon, in 1935, where she was prominent in foren sics, dramatics, and athletics. She is following the social science course at Duke, is a member of Ze ta Tau Alpha national academic sorority, the Y. W. C. A., and Duke Players. This is Miss Sexton’s second year on the Dean's list. Ralph House was home from Campbell College for the weekend, bringing with him a friend, Bill Packer of Clinton. Mr. Bob Clark has been confined to bed by illness for thirteen days. It is hoped that may soon be out again. James Belvin, who has been ill for some time with inflammatory rheumatism, was taken on Monday to Rex Hospital for treatment. Mrs. Robert Phillips is recover ing from a tonsil operation which was performed in a Wilson hospi tal last Sunday. She returned home on Monday. Massey went on Tues day to Raleigh where she had her tonsils removed by Dr. Wright. She has been in Rex hospital since that time, her condition being regarded as satisfactory. Miss Helen Pippin has returned to her home at Norfolk, Va., after spending a few days with her moth er, Mrs. Jerome Pippin. Miss Ruth Southall, for some time with the Zebulon Beauty Shop, is leaving to take a position at Nashville. Bob Sawyer, manager of the lo cal branch of the Steadman Stores, has been confined to bed this week by an attack of septic sore throat. He is thought to be improving now. Mrs. F. E. Bunn was hostess to the Wednesday Afternoon Club this week. WILLI AMS-PERRY Mr. and Mrs. Wiley J. Perry of Zebulon announce the marriage of their daughter, Pattie Lee, to Mr. | Russell Williams of Spring Hope, RFD, on Thursday. October seventh | 1937. The young couple are for the I present staying in the home of the bride’s uncle, Raymond Perry, in Franklin County. Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Williams of Rockingham spent a few days last week in this vicinity with relatives, also calling on some of their many friends in Zebulon. Charles Horton, younger son of the Earl Horton’s, had his tonsils removed in Raleigh on Tuesday of this week. Rev. Ford A. Burns, pastor at Fuquay Springs and Middlesex, was a visitor in the Record office this week. H. E. Litchford, chairman of the Wake County Board for liquor con ! trol, was a caller in the Record of fice Tuesday. As proof that they really did do some successful hunting and shoot | ing “down east” last week, Dr. C. E. Flowers and R. H. Bridgers j brought back with them on Thurs -1 day a deer, killed by the latter. Mr. | Bridgers said he killed the deer with his first shot, but admits shoot ing twice, not knowing that the wound was fatal. After being ex hibited at The City Market the deer was converted into venison for the hunters. Mrs. A. A. Pippin of Wakefield and J. A. Wells of Wendell were : called to Elm City last Saturday by the death of their brother, J. Raymond Wells. Mr. Wells had been ill for months. Mary Sue, little daughter of the L. E. Longs, has had her tonsils taken out and is up again. Here is her account as given over the phone: “Mama asked me if I want ed ’em out and I said I did, and so she took me to the doctor’s office and he took ’em out. No, I don’t know his name, but he lives in Ral eigh.” LEES CHAPEL NEWS Mrs. Johnnie Hilliard is very sick with tonsilitis. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Overman spent the week-end in Raleigh. Mr. C. L. Driver spent Saturday night with Pet Price. S. W. Liggins has purchased a new car. Those attending the Lewis Reun ion below Middlesex, Sunday, from our community were Mr. J. D. Driver and family, Mrs. A. D. Driv er and children and Mr. R. B. Ov erman and Shirley. We are glad that the Aaron Crech bridge is complete and peo ple are crossing on it. Mr. Sam Evans and family have moved from our community to Four Oaks. Miss Lucille Hales spent the week end in Middlesex with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hales. RED WELLS Mrs. Luther Williams entertain ed at a miscellaneous shower last Saturday evening October the 9th honoring Mrs. Sherman Pearce, formerly Miss Elaine McMullen. Refreshments were attractively served. Mrs. Pearce received many beautiful and useful gifts. Miss Margaret Brantley is spending a few days with the G. R. Brantleys in Rocky Mount. Mrs. E. L. Avent and Mrs. R. D. McGowan were in the vicinity last Wednesday. Mrs. Herman Taylor and Mrs. Russel Taylor were in Rocky Mt. shopping last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Avent and little daughter, Kurley Fay, spent last Sunday evenng with Mr. Avent’s father, J. L. Avent. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Taylor, of Sharpsburg, spent last Friday ev ening with Mr. Taylor’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Taylor. The friends of Mrs. B. S. Pace will be glad to hear she is improv ing since taking treatments for a head trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Bolen Varnell from near Wilson, spent the week end with Mrs. Varnell’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. T.
