Dodd May Quit Well founded rumor has it that William E. Dodd is to resign as ambassador to Germany and re turn to the class room at Chicago ■niversity. It is known that the ambassador, who was bom and reared at Clayton and whose fath er now lives near Fuquay Springs, has not been in very good grace with the state department for near ly a year. Lats spring, during the supreme court debate in congress, the ambassador wrote a letter to Senator Glass telling him that he knew of a billionaire who was right ready to finance a Fascist up rising in this country. The purpose of the letter was to make votes for the president’s court-packing plan, but its actual effect was to get the ambassador in bad. The letter did n’t please the Hitlerites and Secre tary of State Hull had a lot of ex plaining to do. Women use calling cards in play the social game.
