THE COURIER-JOURNAL, Pensions Paid Confederates Clerk of Court W. H. Sawyer this week distributed nearly SB,OOO in penions to Confederate soldiers and widows. There are only three veterans of the Confederate array surviving and on the pension roll of this county. They are R. L. Thompson, Judson Hicks, and Mal colm Prince. They get $182.50 each twice a year, in June and De cember. Forty-nine Class A wid ows draw $l5O each semi-annually and one Class B widow gets SSO. In the whole state pension pay ments amount to $272,000 semi annually. Although the ranks of veterans are thinning almost to the vanishing point, the increasing number of eligible widows keeps the total amount up. Patronize our advertisers.
