HARRY HEATER BURNED TO DEATH IN OIL TRUCK Harry B. Heater, of Knig'htdale, formerly of Cary and a grandson of C. R. Heater of that place, was burned to death Thursday morn ing when the oil truck which he was driving got out of control, ov erturned and caught fire. The tragedy occurred on highway U. S. 64, near Knig'htdale. Johnny Reaves of Raleigh, rid ing in the cab with Heater, suf fered severe burns and was brought to Mary Elizabeth hospi tal. Coroner Waring and high way patrol officials investigating the accident, decided that no in quest was necessary. Heater was 23 years of age. He had been working for the Shell oil company about a year. Reaves started to work this week. Several people arrived on the sceue immediately after the truck overturned, but the flames were so hot and spreading so rapidly they could do nothing for Heater, who was pinned beneath the cab. CHINESE SHOW STRENGTH Hankow, China—ln a counter offense against invading Japanese armies, the Chinese resistance has broken several sectors of the Jap line. From the occupied territory surrounding Shanghai comes the report that eight Japanese soldiers had ravished two British girls who had ventured beyond the Interna tional Settlement. Their escorts were bound to trees and forced to witness the brutal assault by the Japanese troops. The incident will unquestionably increase the tension between Tokyo and the British Foreign Office, already smarting under an almost complete “loss of face” in the Orient.
