NEW PRINCESS IN HOLLAND
Princess Juliana of Holland,
daughter of Queen Wilhelmina, has
given birth to a daughter. All ov
er her country there is great re
joicing, though it had been hoped
that a son might be born to the
princess and her husband, Prince
Bernard. A bassinette and layette
will be presented to every baby
born in Holland on the same day
as the baby princess—Jan. 31.
SENTENCED TO DEATH
Bill Payne and Wash Turner
have been sentenced to death for
the murder of George Penn, state
highway patrolman, last August.
They were at the time of the kill
ing, escaped convicts. They are
said to have expressed regret for
the crimes they have committed.

Hurt In Accident
Miss Nellie Whitley was pain
fully, but not seriously injured
recently. She was riding in a car
driven by Miss Rachel Liles, who
in some way lost control, the car
going into the deep ditch in front
of Hotel Clayton. Miss Whitley
suffered some broken ribs; Miss
Liles not being hurt to speak of.

First Annual Valentine Ball and
' Floor Show on February 14th, 1938,
in order to raise funds for a ban
quet and convention that is planned
for the Brotherhood of Railroad
Trainmen.
The Ball and Floor Show will be
held at the Masonic Temple in
Rocky Mount, between the hours of
10 p. m. and two a. m. There is
