SEEN AND HEARD H*t© You Heard This One Jim Miller tells this one in the Graham County News: A certain lady wanted her lawn cut. It seemed that every one was working: for the WPA, so she de cided it might be possible to get the government to make a project of her lawn cutting. It was so or dered and after a week or so a big truck arrived, eight men and two lawn mowers were unloaded and the work started. The lady inquired of the foreman why eight men were sent with only two lawn mowers, to which he replied: “Lady, we work four crews on all our projects. In this case we will work, Two men a coming, Two men a going, Two men a resting, And, two men a mowing.” Pleasant Hill News The farmers are all busy this pretty weather. Most of them have their plant beds sowed. But the busiest of all we think are the Martin brothers of Eagle Rock. They are cutting logs for their saw mill from Proctor’s woods in the Pleasant Hill section. We are sorry to report Mrs. 0. W. Thorne is confined to her bed. We hear that Mr. B. F. Weath ers is improving. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Puryear and A. T. Puryar of Rolesville and G. L. Puryear of Wendell were visit ors at T. Y. Puryear’s Sunday. Miss Frances Jones of Bethany section, spent the week end with Miss Ester V. Hood. Little Miss Elizabeth Richards spent Monday night with Alene Starnes. This community was saddened by the death of G. B. Richardson better known as Uncle Guss. He was a citizen of Johnston, but for the last few years had made his home with his step-daughter, Mrs. E. W. Hood. While he was in good health he was a great help in the community for he was a good farmer, a carpenter, a veterinarian and a church worker, conducting prayer meeting and so on. He of ten said it is well with my soul, al though he regretted the years in early life he lost in doing good for his Master. He was a member of the Union Tabernacle in John ston and was laid to rest in the church cemetery there. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Carl Ousley of Wendell. Many flowers marked the esteem in which he was held.
