Think This Over
The United States contains 6
percent of the world’s area and 7
percent of its population. It nor
mally consumes 48 percent of the
world’s coffee, 53 percent of its
tin, 56 percent of its rubber, 21
percent of its sugar, 72 percent of
its silk, 36 percent of its coal, 42
percent of its pig iron, 47 percent
of its copper and 69 percent of its
crude petroleum.
The United States operates 60
percent of the world’s telephone
and telegraph facilities, owns 80
percent of the motor cars in use,
operates 33 percent of the rail
roads. It produces 70 percent of
the oil, 60 percent of the wheat and
cotton, 50 percent of the copper
and pig iron and 40 percent of the
lead and coal output of the globe.
The United States possesses al
most $11,000,000,000 in gold or
nearly half of the world's mone
tary metal. It has two-thirds of
civilization’s bsnking resources.
The purchasing power of the popu
lation is greater than that of the
500,000,000 people in Europe and
much larger than that of the more
than a billion Asiatics.
YET WE HEAR TALK OF

It Is Dangerous
It is dangerous to sell a SUBSTI

Chevrolet
Going Places
In 1936 a Chevrolet Sports Se
dan started on a 20,000 mile round
of CCC camps in Idaho. It travel
ed over roads in woods, where
there were no roads, and over
mountains 3,000 feet high. On one
road it took the car five hours to
travel 11 miles, all in low gear.
During the year 1,115 gallons of
gas were consumed, averaging
17.93 miles per gallon. Over the
best roads 21 miles were made to
the gallon. The 20,000 miles were
made by the CCC chaplain in his
duties. The going was so satis
factory considering all the ob
stacles met, that even if he had not
been a chaplain, no “cussing”
would have been necessary. The
year gave a record of perform
ance for any car, even the most
expensive ones, but for a Chevro
let—well, that is the usual record
to be expected.
