COMMUNITY CORRESPONDENCE Pleasant Hill News Tr.t farmers are having a rest the past few days, as we have had lots of rain and the land is too wet to work. Crops are looking fine. Mrs. J. W. Gay is seriously ill In Mary Elizabeth hospital. Mrs. E. W. Hood is sick. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Starnes and Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Whitaker vis ited Mrs. Carl Smith of Angier Sunday. Mrs. S. T. Whitaker is still with her mother, Mrs. Helen Strickland of Wendell, who has been sick for some time. Miss Norma Page Liles is spend ing some time with her brother, L. C. Liles of Timberlake. Charlie Scarboro. Jr., was home for the week end from the U. S. Navy. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Duke of Durham, spent a short while at T. Y. Pu: year’s Sunday p. m. Master Irvin Hurst, Jr., of Ox ford, is spending some time with his cousin, Haywood Starnes. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Privette and little son spent Sunday with Mrs. Bessie Lamb of Galesburough. Mr. John Pool, Ms. Thelma Hurst. Mr. J. I. Stigall, of Oxford, were visitors at Mr. J. F. Starnes last Tuesday and Wednesday. Rev. W. H. Pool, pastor at Hephzibah, called to see Mrs. Powell Puryear Friday. She is still unable to be out. M s. H. H. Hood spent several clays last week with her daughter, Mrs. Charlie Jones of Knightdale. Mr. and Mrs. Jones are the proud parents of a 9 pound boy, born on May 27. Wake X Roads Every one enjoyed the vocal union at Caraleigh Baptist Church at Raleigh May 29. There were about 11 choirs there and a nice dinner in the yard. The next vocal union will be held at Wake X Roads Church July 31st. Every one is invited to attend. The young women’s and men’s classes of Wake X Roads Sunday School enjoyed a nice social at the home of Miss Ethel and Joseph Massey Friday night, May 27th. About 50 w'ere present. Games were played. Tee cream and cake were se.ved. Mrs. Lillie Liles’ family and Mr. Kenneth Strickland of Wendell vis ited Mrs. Liles’ sister, Mrs. Sam Forsythe of Creedmoor Sunday. We seem to think our ball team is improving. They played Riley's Saturday at Riley’s. The score, 7-4. Mr. and Mrs. Crayton Massey and son spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Massey’s sister, Mrs. Gra ham Bostic of Fayetteville. Mr. Carl McDuffie and Coleman Liles of Garner were week end guests in this community. Corinth News Miss Cleo Adcock had as her guest last week Miss Katherine Adcock of Oxford. The senior class and faculty members were entertained at a barbecue and brunswick stew Tues day evening at Lake Wendell by two members of the class Annie Mae Fowler and Thomas Boykin, and one of the mascots, Barbara Nell Bovkin, their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L Fowler and Mr. and Mrs J. W. Boykin. Miss Loraine Doanes of Wendell visited Miss Pearle P/atten last week. The junior boys class of Corinth Sunday School won the treat this year for getting the attendance banner more times than any other class last year so the committee THE ZEBULON RECORD, ZEBULON, NORTH CAROLINA, FRIDAY, JUNE 3,1938 decided to take them to Pullen Park for a picnic and to other points of interest in Raleigh. The junior girls enjoyed the trip as guests of the boys’ class and all reported a very enjoyable time. Beit Cunningham is in Finehurst visiting his grandmother, Mrs. Jumey, a while. Mr. D. Eliis and family of Zebu lon visited Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Liles Sunday. Among those visiting Mr. H. B. Andrews who is critically ill, Sun day from out of the community were: Earl Andrews of Richmond, Va.; Mr. Willie Hinnant, Mrs. Col on Doanes and children, and Mr. H. V. Andrews of Wendell; Mr. Joe Wheeler and family, Mrs. En och Whitley and son Rayford of Thanksgiving. We are all hoping for him a speedy recovery. Little Shirley Anne High ran in to the street in Wendell Friday night in front of a car and was knocked down. She was bruised painfully but was not hurt serious ly. PILOT NEWS A number of people f.om Pilot 1 attended a vocal union at the Rocky Cross church Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stallings announce the birth of a nine pound boy. Mother and child are getting along fine. Mr. J. M. Stallings was host to the Masonic Lodge at Wakefield, Saturday noon. Bar-B-Q was served and enjoyed by all. Miss Fostina Shearon, the music tea he: of Bunn High School, was a visitor in Pilot this week. Mr. Hamilton Hobgood, candi date for Judge of Recorder’s Court was in Pilot Thursday, speaking to his friends and asking for support in the primaries. Miss Mildred Manning and mother from Bethel, N. C., on their way to Chapel Hill called on Miss Beryl Lee Stallings Sunday. The men of the Pilot community have co-operated, and are building a ball park on the school ground. The work is progressing nicely, and will soon be completed. Ev eryone is cordially invited to at tend the games. Hinton Blanks Pilot Pilot, May 25—Corbett, Hatcher, blanked Pilot 5-0 today in a John ston County League contest. Bat teries: Corbett, Hatcher Hinton and Creech; Pilot: A. Bullock and B. Bullock. Red Parrish Is Hero At Selma Selma, May 28.—Red Parrish was the pitching and hitting star as the Selma Cards edged a 6-5 t iumph over Pilot today in a 11- inning contest. Dr. Yarborough, County Health Officer of Franklin County, is giving Typhoid and Diphtheria vaccination at Pilot each Tuesday for four weeks. We are glad to report that Mr. B. E. Lewis is recovering rapidly. SOLOMON’S PORT DISCOVERED Report is made by Prof. Millar Burrows, President of Amencan Schools of Oriental Research, that discovery has been made of the seaport used by King Solomon’s ships in the days of the Queen of Sheba. Explorations on the East ern arm of the Red Sea bared the site of the ancient city. Evidence was found of the smelting of cop per and the manufacture of copper inplements. As in many other instances, the Bible was the key to the location of the seaport, which is still used by the Arabs. A. S. Bridges was taken by ambulance to the Veterans’ Hos pital at Columbia, S. C. on Tues day of this week. Mr. Bridges' con dition has become much worse re cently. Tobacco State Baseball League (Continued from Front Page) j Ga.
