COMMUNITY CORRESPONDENCE EARPSBORO Noel Fowler and Miss Marie Fowler are spending the week in Kinston with their sister, Mrs. North Carroll. Miss Bertie Mae Powell spent the weekend with Miss Erdene Wall of Wakefield. Miss Wanda Wilder of Wendell is spending this week with her Cousins, Misses Louise and Lyda Hinton. Most people of this community have fiinshed barning tobacco. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Powell visit ed Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bunn of Hales Chapel section Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ramond Parrish spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Pulley and family. Miss Aline Crowder was the week end guest of Miss Dollie Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Dawsey Bunn and sons, Carl and Hardy, with Russel Wilder of Middlesex, visited in the M. B. Lewis and W. B. Hinton homes Sunday afternoon. A good many of our people en joyed a nice sermon by Rev. H. C. Upchurch at Hales Chapel Sunday. Mrs. John Crowder of Zebulon spent the week end with her daugh ter, Mrs. A. G. Lewis. PILOT Mr. and Mrs. G. U. Massey from near Raleigh were at church Sun day. Dr. Bissette and his wife of Wil son visited Mrs. Green Sunday, who is suffering from a broken hip. Mr. Horace Jones has returned from Georgia where he has been working on the tobacco market. Mr. J. M. Stallings and the coun ty commisssioners have returned from Asheville. Miss Ellen Williams of Spring Hope was visiting Mrs. S. W. Cone. A large number ofthe young boys went to 'Strickland’s Pond swim ming Sunday afternoon. About 15 girls from here left early Monday morning for White Lake to spend a week. Mr. Jerry Hagwood and Mr. Leroy Brantley went as chaperons. Mrs. J. D. Stallings had a family reunion at her home Sunday. The families were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Marh Wheeler from Nashville; Mrs. and Mrs. Grey Joyner from Louisburg; Mrs. Henry Warren of Spring Hope; Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Williams of Zebulon. Mrs. Willie Bains of Nashville, and Miss Ellen Williams of Spring Hope; Mr. and Mrs- B. E. Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Bunn, Miss Rachel Bunn, Mr. Russell Bunn and friend, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Bunn, all of Pilot. CORINTH We had very good attendance at Sunday School Sunday. Next Sat urday and Sunday at 11 A. M. is our regular preaching time. Every one is ayways welcome. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Cunningham had as their guests last week, Mrs. Ethel Journey and W. P. Morton, Jr., of Pinehurst. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Atkinson, a son, on Wednesday, August 10. Miss Joyce Britt of near Archer Lodge spent the weekend with Miss Esther Lynch. Miss Dora Hardy of Raleigh vis ited in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Hardy, last week. Mr. W. H. O’Neal was given a dinner in honor of his 56th birth day Sunday. Among those present from out of the community attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Joyner of Gooldsboro, who were weekend guests in the O’neal home. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were little cousins: Nevel and Sherwood Davis, Howard Fuller and W. M. Boykin. The floral offering was beautiful. Cousins and friends were 1 flower girls. Surviving other than his parents are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Davis of this community, Mr. Bernice Hamilton of near Raleigh and a host of other relatives and friends. (Received too late for last week's Record) Lots of the farmers of this sec tion had tobacco on the opening of the early market for sale. They did not seem especially pleased at the prices it was bringing. Most of the curing in this section is over. Miss Annie Mae Fowler was the week end guest of Miss Ruby K. Isley of Graham, who has been I home economics teacher in our high school for several years. Mr. Paul Hocutt and family of week. Miss Audrey Liles of near Wake Forest is visiting Miss Betty Green this week. Mrs. Eugene Matthews and baby of Angier visited the Ronald Ho cutts this weekend. Mr. F. L. Wilder and family are spending some time with Mrs. Wilder’s relatives in Tennessee. Little Billy Wayne Alford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Alford who was in Rex Hospital a few days last week for treatment has been brought home and seems to be im proving. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hardister and his daughter, Katherine of Raleigh, visited Mr. and Mrs. John nie Godwin Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Cunningham and little son, Bert, are leaving this week for a month’s stay with relatives in McMinnville, Tenn. On Wednesday, August 10 at 5 o’clock, little Bernice Cleveland Hamilton, 6 months old and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hamil ton, died in Duke Hospital. Mrs. Hamilton was formerly Miss Es- Wendell called on Mrs. Mary Ho cutt a short while Sunday. Miss Dorothy Davis visited Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Manning near Emit during the week end. Mr. Otho O’Neal had the misfor tune of having a barn to burn down Saturday afternoon. The tobacco belonged to a tenant, Tom O’Neal. Miss Cleo Adcock has been in Oxford visiting friends for some time. L. T. Davis and family attended and enjoyed preaching services at White Oak Church at Archer Lodge Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Newman Hocutt of Bethany visited Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Smith Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Odell High had as their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Eason, Mr. and Mrs. Avery Eason and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Las siter and son of near Smithfield. Miss Margaree Davis visited Mr. and Mrs. Worth Davis near Friend ship during the week end. Little Bernice Hamilton, baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hamil ton is very ill -with malaria fever. . Miss Virginia Lee Hinnant and Mrs. Jesse High spent Tuesday with Miss Rosaline High of Wen dell. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Green and children, Ashley and Betty, and Miss Ola Mae Whitley, were the guests Sunday of Robert Hocutt and family in the Thanksgiving community. Rev. J. E. Carter s mother, Mrs. A. E. Carter, and his sister, Nora, of Carters Chapel, and also his sis ters, Mrs. Max Rhodes and Mrs. Ernest Parrish, of near Wendell, were visitors in his home Sunday afternoon. PLEASANT HILL Most of the farmers are finish ing up barning tobacco this week. We are glad the children will get a few weeks before school be gins. Most of the people have to finish after school opens. The pea crop is the shortest in this section. Very few have even had green peas for use yet. yet. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Starnes of Durham spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Starnes. Mr. Worth Johnson of Raleigh, Mrs. J. H. Kellems of Durham and Mrs. Grace Davis of Burlington, were visitors at Mrs. E. W. Hood’s Sunday afternoon. Mrs- H. E. Whitakers and son, Dewamer, are returning to New Jersey this week after spending two months here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Jack West and Miss Velma Starnes of Durham spent Saturday night at their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Starnes. Mrs. Addie Whitaker’s mother is spending a while with her. Miss Iradell Gay of Rolesville is visiting her sister Estelle at the home of J. W. Gay. Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Williford and baby Maynard Navin, and Carl Puryear were visitors at C. D. Puryear’s near Wake Forest Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hood and sons of Boonville, spent the week end with his njother, Mrs. E. W. Hood. C. W. and Edward, Jr., will spend two weeks with their grand mother. H. A. Whitaker and J. G. Pearce motored to White Lake Sunday. Mr. J. B. Carter and daughter, Cleo, were visitors at F. D. Gay’s near Clayton Sunday. Margaret Carter is visiting rela tives in Durham this week. Miss Kiva Hood is spending some time in Raleigh and Durham. Armstead Henderson spent the week end in Raleigh. Mrs. 0. W. Thorne and T. Y. Puryear served ice cream and wein er roast Saturday night for Mrs. T. Y. Puryear’s birthday supper. WAKE X ROADS Mrs. Edwin Perry has been se riously ill for some time. We hope she will soon be well. Miss Clarice Blackley spent the afternoon Sunday at Misses Vera and Mamie Watkins of near Roles ville. Those visiting Mrs. Edwin Perry during the past weekend were: Mrs. E. A. Jones, Mrs. Herman Jones, Mrs. Luther Conner, Pattie Mae Conner, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Clay and son, Mr. and Mrs. Crayton Mas sey and son, Mr. and Mrs- Jack Taylor of Raleigh, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Watkins, Mrs. Lillie Liles, Mamie and Vera Watkins, Clarice Blackley and Miss Valeria Watkins. Supplying in the absence of our pastor, Rev. Poole, Sunday night, was Rev. William Cone of Spring Hope. Everyone sure enjoyed his fine sermon. Mrs. J- Auther McDade is im proving after an illness for some time in Mary Elizabeth Hospital, Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Strickland of Wendell spent the weekend at Mrs. Strickland’s mother, Mrs. Lillie Liles. Mrs. Strickland was before her marriage, July 31st., Dorothy Liles of this community. The adult women’s class met at the church Saturday afternoon for a social. There were a good number present and everyone enjoyed the lemonade and sandwiches that were served by Mrs. R. S.
