COMMUNITY CORRESPONDENCE HALESCHAPEL The revival meeting closed at Hales Chapel Sunday night with 28 additions to the church. 25 com ing for baptism; 3 by letter. Serv ices were held each afternoon and night by the pastor, the Rev. Hugh C. Upchurch. Misses Kathrine and Pansy Mar- ' tin of Raleigh visited relatives' here last week. Mrs. John Crowder of near Zeb ulon is spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Creech. Master Warren Allen of near Wendell visited his little cousin, Billy Hugh Dunn, Thursday after noon. Douglass Tippett, Norris Bunn and Arthur Allen went to Wilson Friday on business. Miss Marie Hilliard has re turned to her home near Middle- ' sex after spending a few days with | Mrs. P. B. Chamblee. Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Bunn of Zebulon were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Will Bunn Sunday afternoon. Miss Ruby Martin of Raleigh spent the week end with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Martin. Little Miss Rachel Bunn of Zeb ulan spent the week end with little Miss Lula Maud Bennett. Mr. and Mrs. Lumas W T hitley have returned to their home near Sandy Cross after spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Strickland. Mrs. Joe Tippett of the Friend ship church section is visiting her son, Mr. A. L. Tippett. Little Bettie Jean Brown is get ting along nicely after having her tonsils removed last Monday. Mr. Dexton Hinton is \isiling relatives in this stction. PILOT The Collin Hicks family who are sick, were given a shower Sat urday night by the Pilot Baptist church and community. This shower was sponsored by the Missionary Society, but all the people participated. They received many useful articles of clothing, and a bountiful supply of food of all kinds. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks ex tend grateful thanks to all who helped make this shower a suc cess. Mr. Russell E'unn, of Goldsboro, N. C., was at Pilot Sunday visiting his mother and friends. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Owens of Marshall, Tenn., visited Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stallings, on Saturday. Mr. J. J. T aylor, of Powellsville, N. C., is directing the music for our revival, this week. Don’t let the rain keep you away from church. Come out and help in the meeting. Mrs. Rona Cone, took the chil dren of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Stall ings, to Rex Hospital Sunday to see their father, who is slowly improving. CORINTH Preaching services were held Saturday and Sunday morning at 11:00 o’clock by Rev. W. I). Stan cil, pastor. Baptizing services were held at Lake Wendell Sunday at 10 a.m. There were sixteen addi tions to the church—fourteen by baptism and two by letter. One of the candidates for baptism was not able to be present and will be baptized at a later date bringing the total additions to seventeen. Mrs. Peyton Glover has gone back to the hospital for another operation. We hope she will soon be well. Elvin Carter is on our sick list also, paving bad speljs of bleeding at the nose during the past week. THE ZEBULON RECORD, ZEBULON, NORTH CAROLINA, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23,1938 Miss Marie Adcock and Melvin Adcock of near Oxford visited Mr. and Mrs. Otha O’Neal Sunday. Mr. Waylon Hinton and family of Emit visited Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Smith Sunday. Miss Libby Bunn of near Zebu lon was the Sunday dinner guest of Mr. D. Cope and daughter, Miss Merle Cope. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Davis had as their guests the weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Denton and sons, Charles 'and Carl of near Selma. A party was given at his home Saturdav afternoon for Carl Bunch who will return to the School for Deaf in Morganton. A large num ber of his small friends from this community as well as relatives and friends of other communities at tended and enjoyed the party. We all hope for Carl a very success ful year. Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Davis and j three small children visited Mr. and-Mrs. Barbee Fuller and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Morris of near Middlesex Sunday afternoon. Lots of people in this community attended the revival meetings at Hales Chapel and White Oak churches last week. WAKE X ROADS There were 127 present at Sun day School and some new mem bers. We have about 200 members but still hope for more. Mr. and Mrs. Royal Poole, Grace and Lena Mae Poole spent the day Sunday at Fuquay Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cooke also Nathan Cooke visited their mother Mrs. Jim Cooke of Neuse who has been ill for some time. Mrs. A. J. Watkins is seriously ill. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Perry and family were among those who gave Mrs. Jack Taylor of Raleigh a surprise birthday supper Mon day night, September 12 at her home in Raleigh. School has started and the chil dred seem to be learning fast al ready. We sure hope for a fine year at Rolesville this year. Mr. Ollie Young of near New Hope was the week-end guest at his sister Mrs. Edwin Perry. We seem to be having the much needed rain this week. Everything was awfully dry. PLEASANT HILL E. T. Puryear, well known citi zen of Wake county, died Sept. 15, almost suddenly, as he lived only a short while after he was taken, dying before a physician could see him. His death was a shock to his family and friends. He was a native of Person coun ty, having lived in Wake for quite a number of years; was 74 years old; and was married to Lona Ann Owen in 1889. To this union were born six children of whom five are living. At the time of his death he was living near Knightdale, and was a member of Salem Meth odist church in Granville county. He was a good neighbor and friend to both colored and white. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife; four sons, E. W. and J. H. Puryear of Knightdale; C. C. Pur year of Milwaukee, Wis., and A. H. Puryear of Wake Forest; one daughter, Mrs. T. C. Harris of Wendell; and a number of grand children; one brother, Alexander Puryear of Virginia. Pallbearers were Masons of the Whitestone lodge of Wakefield of which he was a member. A short funeral service was conducted by Rev. Lucius Evans of Knightdale in the cemetery of Hephzibah church, where he was laid to rest. We are sorry Mrs. Connie Gay is very sick at the home of J. W. Gay. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Whitaker ' spent Sunday afternoon with her sister Miss Lula Strickland. Miss Velma Starnes returned to I Durham Sunday after spending two weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Starnes. Mrs. Frank Weathers and chil dren spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. David Denton. , M isses Mabel and Nancy Parish ] and Miss Marie Pearce spent Sun day afternoon with Misses Eliza beth and Jodie Mae Weathers Miss Ravanelle Driver of Zeb ulon spent the week end with Miss Mary Elizabeth Gay. A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. Bertie Carter Sunday in honor of his birthday. Mrs. Tom Starnes is spending some time in Angier with her daughter, Mrs. Carl Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weath ers were visitors at Mr. Roper Privett’s Sunday. Mrs. Eunice Rease, Mr. Lonza Puryear and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Puryear of Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Puryear and sons, T. E. and A. T. Puryear of Rolesville and C. D. Puryear of Wake Forest were visitors at T. Y. Puryear’s Friday. Mrs. Sanford Pearce spent Sat urday afternoon with Mrs. Clar ence Weathers. We wouldn’t recommend Honor able James A. Farley to the youth of America as a perfect example. But he has one charm that adds to his ever-lengthening chain of friendships through the years!
