First came a romantic moonlight plane ride with hand some Cunnar Thorwald, crack Norwegian flyer who shunned women like poison. Next came Sarah Lynn’s conquest of the air, in adventuresome episode that tpened new vistas for the dark laired Dana girl. It gave her a ommon interest with Cunnar Thorwald, whose attention final ly blossomed into love. Then ...near-tragedy struck, and Sarah Lynn emerged a cripple, the bird with a broken wing. Could Cunnar Thorwald love a cripple? Find out by reading “Strait Gate,” regularly in this paper. This week I have something in this column that really does have some sense to it. It’s a w’rite-up of the game played by Wakelon Friday at Catholic Orphanage. First quarter: Wakelon received the kick-off. However, they were unable to make a gain and lost the ball. Neither team ran the ball be yond the other’s 35 yard line. Both fought hard and clean and were equally matched. The quarter end ed with the ball in midfield. Score 0-0. Second quarter: Wakelon had the upper hand in this quarter. The Bulldogs took the ball early in quarter and with a heavy line at tack ran the ball deep into the Orphanage territory. There the Or phans’ line held for a little and delayed the touch-down. However, Robert Lee Kimball ran the ball 15 yards through a broken field for the touchdown. A combination of excellent blocking and Kimball’s skill were too much for the op posing team. The try for the extra point failed. W’akelon kicked off. The half ended with the score 6-0, Wakelon’s favor. Third quarter: The Orphans re ceived the ball and were unable to make a gain. After several ex changes the ball was taken by Wakelon for a one-way ride. Wil liard Morris ran the ball about three yards for Wakelon’s second touch-down. R. L. Kimball drop kicked the extra point. Wakelon kicked to the Orphans. They launched an aerial attack and sent the pigskin back into Wakelon’s land. Another pass gave them a touch-down. They made the extra point w’ith another. The third quar ter ended with the score 13-7, Wakelon’s favor. Stars for Wake lon: The w\iole blamed team! Fourth quarter; The ball ex changed hands several times. Near the last of the quarter a bad centered ball and a bad catch caused a fumble. An Orphanage boy covered it. The Orphaans launched another attack and drove deep toward the Wakelon goal. The game ended with the score re maining 13-7. This was the second Wakelon victory in a series of 9 (I hope). Anyway, don’t forget the game Friday. Remember the admission, 10c and 15c. That’s low enough for even the most miserly miser to see (the game. Yessuh, and the game is gonna be packed with ex citement and fight all the way through. Coach Austin has put the team through the toughest train ing, this week, that they have had. So it’s gonna be Wakelon, all the way through! I’m still Wakelonianly yours, The Swashbuckler. Flower Show Because of the late flowering of chrysanthemums the Flower Show sponsored by the Garden Club has been postponed until a date which will be announced in a later issue of this paper.
