THE ZEBULON RECORD, ZEBULON, NORTH CA ROLINA, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14,1938 COMMUNITY CORRESPONDENCE PILOT | We are sorry to report that pas tor Rev. F. A. Bums is in Rex Hospital. He was (injured in a wreck Friday afternoon. We pray that he will soon recover and come back to us. In his absence Rev. William Cone will fill his pulpit here. The W. M. U. met Saturday eve ning at the church. There will be a meeting of the Sunday School officers and teach ers at the church Thursday eve ning at 7:30 o’clock. Mr. J. L. Ray fell into a to bacco pit last week and is now suffering from a cold and broken ribs. Mr. Ned Medlin is in the hospi tal suffering from a fall. The P. T. A. meet Tuesday eve ning and many were present. Mr. and Mrs. Parish of Louis burg called on Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stallings Sunday evening. Mrs. Larosa Bunn who teaches near Louisburg visited her parents Sunday evening. Mr. John L. Pearce and wife of Durham, N. C., spent Sunday with Mr. Jud Bunn. Mr. and Mrs. Zedric Pearce of Durham, N. C., were visitors in Pilot Sunday. Mr. G. F. Pearce and Mr. Son nie Williams visited Mr. H. E. Stallings in Rex Hospital Sunday. Mr. Jerry Hagwood and Mr. Le roy Brantley went to Raleigh Monday. CORINTH We had good attendance at Sun day School last Sunday. Every one is always welcome each Sun day at 10 o’clock. Next Saturday and Sunday are our regular preaching days. Come and bring others with you. Mr. T. L. Hardy who has been very ill recently is improving. Messrs. J. T. Davis, Wayon Al ford, L. T. Davis, Freeman Thom asson, A. A. Davis and their fam ilies attended a birthday dinner in honor of Mrs. Jimmie Fulghum at her home in Bailey Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hocutt and son Ronald, Jr., have moved away from this community and are mak ing their home in Raleigh. Buffaloe-Davis Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Davis an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Magdalene to Mr. Bill Buffaloe, son of Mrs. Ila Buffa loe of Zebulon on Friday, October 7. Mr. and Mrs. Buffaloe will make their home in Zebulon. WAKE X ROADS Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Blackley and family and Charlie Blackley visited Mr. and Mrs. L. H. hurr and family of Rhamkatte Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Poole and Mr. and Mrs. Horace Poole and fam ily spent Sunday w’ith Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Watkins of Dur ham. Miss Earlene Horton spent Sun day with Miss Vera Watkins. Everyone enjoyed the fine ser mon by our supply preacher Mr. McMaynard of Wake Forest. The Intermediate girls had a fine social at the home of Miss Margaret O’Neals Saturday night. The gjpimes wrtre enjoyed by a large number, after which apples and candy were served. Mr. Edwin Perry, Sereni. Black ley, and Horace Poole went fish ing at Sunset Lake last Wednes day and caught about 20 lb. of| fish. Many enjoyed the fine t<*nt show given at Rolesville the past week. Mrs. Claude Gaddy and Mr. Gaddy were visitors at our church 1 Sunday. Mrs. Gaddy organized a W. M. U. for us. There was a large rain and a little hail last Thursday night, but the hail did very little damage. Miss Hazel Watkins of near Rolesville spent this week-end at Miss Vivian McDade. PLEASANT HILL Mrs. Sallie Jeffries of Louisburg is visiting Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Jeffries. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Jones and family spent Sunday night at T. Y. Puryear’s. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Adkinson of Johnson are spending this week at Mr. J. B. Carter’s. This is not news, but any way I just wonder if any one else has had this to cheer them this fall. There are two mocking birds that sing day and night around my yard just like spring. I awoke Sunday night at 1:30 and in a crepe myrtle tree near my room they were singing And something else rare for this season of the year. I had a beauti ful Cape Jesamine (gardenia) open last week. I enjoyed the odor of it in the house a few days. Wore it to church Sunday and it was still pretty. I sent it to Mrs. (Dr.) Barbee today. » We are having beautiful weather now. The farmers are sowing grain, stacking feed, and just busy with different kinds of work. I am sorry the news letter didn't reach the office in time last week. (Too late for last week) We are glad to report Mrs. Con nie Gay is better. Miss Melba Hood went back to school this week after a few days illness. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Starnes of Durham were visitors at Mr. J. F. Starnes’ Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Carter and Madams T. Y. Puryear and 0. W. Thorne were visitors at Mr. L. H. Willifords of Bethany Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Jefferys visited in Louisburg Sunday. Miss Margie Strickland of Zeb ulon spent Tuesday night with Miss Jodie Mae Weathers. Miss Mildred Mitchell of Union Chapel spent Sunday night with Misses Lillian Pace and Bettie Lee Oakley. Mr. Jonah Parish and family attended the revival at Antioch last week. Miss Ruth Parish spent Sunday night with Miss Ruth Weathers. Miss Shirley Starnes spent Sun day with Mrs. Winnie Helen Ad kinson of Johnston county. Mrs. A. O. Puryear is spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Moody near Rolesville. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jones of Knightdale visited their parents Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hood. NEW INDUSTRIES LOCATE IN NORTH CAROLINA RALEIGH, N. C.—More than $10,000,000 worth of new industries located in North Carolina during the eight months period from Jan uary through August, 1938, accord ing to figures announced today by Director R. Bruce Etheridge of the Department of Conservation and Development. These figures, based on a sur vey just completed by J. T. An derson. industrial engineer of the division of commerce and industry j of the Conservation Department, show that a total of 92 new indus trial plants located in North Caro lina during this period while addi tions were built to 53 industrial plants already in operation. “None of these new plants were lured to North Carolina with prom isos of tax exemptions, free use of ( buildings or with any of the many baits used by some other states,” Mr. Anderson said. “These new’ in dustries located in North Carolina because this state offered superior advantages, such as nearness to markets and raw materials, mild climate, low maintenance costs, fair taxes and an adequate supply of native-born labor.” A larger number of new indus tries located in North Carolina dur ing the four months from May through August than during the previous four months. In this period 51 new industries and 27 additions are listed as compared with 42 new industries and 26 additions during the first four months from Janu ary through April. The list of new industries locat ing in the state show’s that hosiery plants are in the lead, since 13 of the 51 new industries recorded for the second four months of 1938 were hosiery mills while 16 of the additions were to existing hosiery plants. The 51 new industries which lo cated in North Carolina during the second four months period are: cotton goods, 1; dyeing and fin ishing 2; hosiery, 13; knit goods, 2; silk throwing, 1; feed and meal, 1; furniture, 5; food processing and bottling plants, 10; mines and quarries, 3; chemicals, 1; ware houses, 2; paper and paper pro ducts, 3; miscellaneous, 5. The 27 plants to which addi tions were made during this same period are: hosiery, 16; dyeing and finishing, 1; knit goods, 1; silk throwing, 1; furniture, 1; cotton goods, 2; and miscellaneous, 5.
