FARMERS (REPAYING FSA CROP LOANS RALEIGH, October 19.—Despite adverse crop conditions, including low cotton yields in many sections, and low cotton prices, North Caro lina farmers farming under the supervised loan program of the Farm Security Administration this year already have repaid $139,000 more on their loans than for a sim ilar period last year. From June 30 to middle of October this year, $431,921 was collected as compared with $292,287 for the same period in 1937, Treasury receipts show. Collections for the one week end ing October 12, totalled $70,510.94, and collections for the week ending October 19 amounted to $64,875.07, bringing total cumulative repay ments from Farm Security Ad ministration borrowers in North Carolina to $2,409,484.99. Although certain crop conditions and cash crop prices have not been favorable this year, FSA farmers on the average grew more food and feed crops, both last year and this year, than previously. Those w r ho had more potato hills and full er barns and smokehouses, as a rule, were better prepared to meet low prices because they did not have to go in debt for subsistence goods, it was pointed out.
