COMMUNITY CORRESPONDENCE PILOT Many people from here attended the Rally meeting at Bunn Baptist church Sunday afternoon. We are glad to report that our pastor, Mr. Burns, is still ‘improv ing at Rex hospital. Mr. H. E. Stallings, has returned from Rex hospital and is getting along finely. Misses .Wilma and Darnell Phil lips from Pearces visited here Sunday. Mr. Jimmie Liner of Asheville, N. C., spent the week-end here. Miss Beryle Lee Stallings at tended the football game at Wake Forest on Friday night. Miss Janice Lewis, who is at tending college at Buies Creek, was home for the week-end. Misses Manning and Shearon, teachers of Bunn, N. C., visited here Sunday. Mrs. Larosa Bunn was at home for the week end. Miss Edith Earl Williams, who is attending college at Wilson, was at home with her people Saturday and Sunday. Pilot School held a Hallowe’en party Friday night. Refreshments were served and everybody seemed to enjoy it. WAKE X ROADS Almost every one is nearly done working tobacco and picking cot ton. Everyone had a fine time at the Vocal Union Sunday at Hop kins Chapel. Ten choirs were pres ent. The next one will be at Car. aleigh church, Raleigh. Miss Myrtle Raines visited her sister, Mrs. H. P. Holden, Sunday. Misses Louise Bennett, Frances Allen, and Marie Hester spent this week end at Miss Louise Rich ards’. Everyone enjoyed the party at Misses Louise Repsie Lee and An nie Ruth Richards Saturday night. Games were played and candy and apples were served. Mr. Ed Poole of the county hos pital is visiting his sister, Mrs. Joe Jones. '' Little Alva Ree Poole is ill at her home with the croup. We hope she will soon be well. Miss Gracie Holden is sick this week with chills. We hope she will soon be well. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Richards of Durham and Mrs. William Rich ards visited Mr. Billy Norwood at Rex Hospital Sunday. PLEASANT HILL Mrs. Cecil Carter returned Satur. day from Duke Hspital after an appendix operation Sunday before last; hope she will soon be well. We are sorry A. N. Philips is not so well. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Rape of Wilson were visitors at Alfonza Starnes Friday evening, Roy Gay, grandson of J. W. Gay, is in Rex Hospital with a broken foot. We hope he will soon be out again. Mrs. Charlie Harris and children of Spring Chapel spent a while at T. Y. Puryear’s Sunday night. Mrs. Sallie Horton of Fowler’s Cross Roads spent last week with her son, B. K. Horton. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gay and family have moved from New Jer sey to live with his father, Mr. John Gay, Mr. and Mrs. S. K. Richardson of Corinth were visitors at Mr. J. F. Starnes’ Monday of last week. Some of the people in this sec tion went to the Vocal Union at Hopkins Chapel Sunday. Naomi Puryear spent Tuesday night with Vadie Richards of Un ion Chapel. THE ZEBU LON RECORD, ZEBULON, NORTH CAROLINA, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4,1938 EXPERIMENT STATION ASKS MORE MONEY FOR RESEARCH An increasing demand for re search work will prompt the North Carolina Experiment Station to ask the General Assembly for an increase of $82,735 yearly for the next biennium, said Dr. I. O. Schaub of State College, acting di rector of the Station. At the present time, the income of the Experiment Station from Htate sources amounts to $45,- 600. Os this $5,000 comes from the general fund for special apple re search, $26,350 from the agricul tural fund, and $14,200 from mis cellaneous receipts. If the increase is granted, it will provide the necessary offset to meet the $128,285 in Federal funds authorized under the Bankhead- Jones Act.
