PHILOMATHIAN SOCIETY The Philomathian Society met Thursday, December the first in the auditorium. The meeting was called to order by the vice-president Lillian Wells. Roll call and minutes were read by secretary Earle Wil liams. First number on the pro gram was a song “Pve Been Wukkin’ on de Railroad” by Doro thy Conn and Lydia Mae Carrol, assisted by Charles Winstead at the piano. Second a talk by Miss Meachmen on “Personal Hints for High School Girls” was enjoyed by all. The society adjourned to meet Thursday, December 15. Dot Horton. BASKETBALL The girls and boys of Wakelon school have started basketball practice this week. We have about 45 girls and 35 boys out for prac tice. They have started off with a lot of pep. By the looks of their practicing we should have a good season. Ruby Mae Alford. THE JUNIOR PLAY The Junior class will present its annual dramatic production on Thursday night December 15 at 7:30 o’clock. The admission will be ten and twenty cents, and the pro ceeds will be used for the Junior- Senior banquet in the spring. The play this year is a comedy mystery, Hobgoblin House. The following cast has been working hard, and the prospects for an en tertaining evening are very good: Darius Krupp, Wilbur Debnam; Miss Priscilla Carter, Betty Lee Winstead; Marian Carter, Agnes Brannon; Jill Carter, Frances Jones; Frank Harlow, Dayton Par rish; Jack Loring, Craven Parrish; Susan Parkins, Evelyn White; Henry Goober, Berdon Eddins; De lilah Worts, Earle Williams; Patri cia, Elizabeth Sexton; Bluebeard Bronson, Julian Mitchell; Bill Wil kins, John Ihrie; The Headless Phantom, ? ? ? . Miss Priscilla Carter is peeved because her two nieces have fallen in love with two “silly young nin compoops”. And what a mess they get into—ghosts and ghostly doings everywhere. Just as luck would have it they arrive on the very night that old Blue beard Bronson, who once commit ted a murder in the house, is sup posed to revisit the scene of his crimes. And does he come? Well at any rate there are some strange happenings on this night of nights —December 15. «r LATIN BANQUET Jackie Greene and Virginia Brid gers will give poems whicji they wrote. Rebecca Horton and Virginia Bridgers will give a story they wrote. Song—Adeste Fidelis (or) Oh Come All Ye Faithful. Riddles about gods and god desses by the eighth grade. Life of Ceasar, Rebecca Ruth Horton. The Play Julius Ceasar, by mem bers of the ninth grade. After we have finished eating we will ask Mr. Moser to make a speech. We are putting a lot of time on this Banquet and hope it will be a success. Jackie Greene. LATIN BANQUET The eighth and ninth grade Latin classes of Wakelon High are plan ning and looking forward to our Latin Banquet, which we are go ing to give Thursday night, De cember 8, 1938. The Latin Ban quet has been a tradition at our school for many years. The Ban quet will be under the supervision of Miss Cox our Latin Teacher. Each member of both classes will take part in s he program we have planned. We have invited special guests, Mr. and Mrs. Moser and Mrs. Bunn. We hope they will enjoy our Ban quet. The program we have planned is as follows: Welcome Speech^—Elsie Bunn. Master of Ceremonies, Dorcas Liles. Song, “America” in Latin. An Old Roman Banquet, Dorothy Horton. THE G. M. BELL SSOCIETY The G. M. Bell society met last Thursday on December 1, 1938. The- president went to Raleigh so the vice-president took her place. The secretary called the roll and read the minutes of the last meet ing. Then the following program was rendered. Then the pupils made a motion that we adjourn. Mazie Horton. POST-GRADUATES The post graduates of Wakelon High School are finding their places in the world. It was a sad day when we graduated from high school. It was hard to choose which way to go in order to obtain suc cess. Several post graduates are tak ing the business course at Wakelon. Some others decided they would take life easy this year and not do anything in particular, but next year they are planning to start out and really work in the right way. Still others decided to enter into holy wedlock and obtain suc cess along the smooth and bumpy road of matrimony. No matter which way we go or what we do our one aim and goal is success and happiness. We are preparing ourselves now- to become the successful leaders of our world in t'ne near future.Ercelle Littletor EROSOPHIAN SOCIETY One of the best programs of the year was enjoyed by the Ero sophian society last Thursday, es pecially two parts on the program O were good. These parts were a short talk by Mr. Moser on the value of reading. He gave it as a help to the boys in their reading, and advised them to read the right kind of books and stories.
