Fair Next Week
Rocky Mount, Oct. 19.—Every
thing is in readiness for the 22nd
annual Rocky Mount Fair, and a
record crowd is expected for the
opening here Tuesday morning.
With the huge fairgrounds
bustling with activity, Rocky
Mount has already taken on a gay
holiday spirit, and the town stands
ready to welcome thousands of
visitors.
Mrs. Norman Y. Chambliss, res
ident manager, said today that
nothing had been left undone to
make the exposition the best ever
held in this section.
There’ll be “jitterbugging
aplenty” and Wayne Whitley, Jr.,
of Rocky Mount has charge of the
arrangements for the Jitterbug
Contest Wed. night. Prize will
range from $5. A similar contest
for Negroes will be staged on
Friday night and will be conduct
ed by none other than Mack
Riggsbee, who formerly chauffer
ed for the famous Kay Kyser, and
is still employed by Mrs. Kyser,
the bandleader’s mother, here.
‘‘Thrill Day” will come Thurs
day with Lucky Teter and His
Hell Drivers returning by popular
demand. This year the famous
congress of dare-devils ihasj an
entirely new program of stunts.
They will defy death at the steer
ing wheel in a two-hour show in
the afternoon .
Grandstand attractions this
year will be the best ever seen at
ail Eastern Carolina fain, with
15 high-class circus and vaude
ville acts in the afternoon and
evenings, climaxed by a brilliant
display of fireworks each night,
and a number of extra entertain
ment features.
A total of $1,500 is being
awarded to exhibitors of prem
ium winners this year, and indi
cations point to crowded exhibit
halls, with competition stiff be
tween proud contestants.
Once again the Cetlin and Wil
son Shows will furnish the mid
way for the Rocky Mount Fair.
With 15 rides and 15 shows, Cet
lin and Wilson offer the biggest
and best in high-type educational
entertainment.
The fair runs Tuesday through
Saturday night .with a differ
ent and interesting program ev
ery day.

Never has a woman set on a
jury in Johnston county. But now
one will. Last Monday when a
new jury list was drawn, the
name of Mrs. J. O. Black of
Clayton township was drawn. She
is the first regular jurywoman
ever to serve in the county.
