By MRS. T. Y. PURYEAR
We are having such pretty
weather. Most every one is busy
at work, after spending most of
their time at the fairs last week.
You couldn’t judge prices Ih to
bacco or war times by the crowds
that went to the fair.
A strange Negro man was in
this section Sunday morning beg

his baby that died the night be
fore. Afterwards we learned he
was spending it for strong drink

mother-in-law, Mrs. E. W. Hood,

AMERICAN BOY MAGAZINE
COMPANION TO THOUSANDS
Hundreds of thousands of boys
and young men read THE
AMERICAN BOY Magazine every
month and consider it more as a
living companion thaan as a mag
azine.
“It’s as much a buddy to me
as my neighborhood chum,”
writes one high school senior.
“THE AMERICAN BOY seems
to understand a boy’s problems
and considers them in such a sym
pathetic and helpful way. It gives
advice and entertaining reading
on every subject in which a young
fellow is interested. It is particu
larly helpful in sports. I made
our school basketball team be
cause of playing tips I read in
THE AMERICAN BOY.”
Many famous athletes in all
sports credit much of their suc
cess to helpful suggestions re
ceived from sports articles car
ried in THE AMERICAN BOY

PHTHISIOPHOBIA
Do you suffer from Phthisio
phobia? It is extremely prevalent
at present in this section, and is
contagious. Several cases have
recently been communicated from
one person to others, and the rem
edy is hard to find.
Phthisiophobia is the fear of tu
berculosis when based on ignor
ance. Those having it are pos
sessed of a horror of tuberculosis
and a dread of contracting it;
but have entirely wrong ideas
about prevention and cure. Its
sufferings are unnecessary, but
hard to remedy.
The best cure and the only
cure for phthisiophobia is educa
tion as to proper procedure in tu
bercular cases; plus a realization
that tuberculosis is not a disease
to inspire morbid fear and melan
cholia.
Tuberculosis needs to be un
derstood and fought. Those who
have it should have all possible

Save Robeson And Save The
State!
Last week law enforcement of
ficers captured 17 stills and 8,800
gallons of beer, nine men, a mule
and a wagon in Robeson County.
In four months they have captur
ed over 100 stills. For lack of
wood or stoves, perhaps these
folks are getting ready for winter
by warming up on the inside.
