While the sketches are brief and imperfect, yet they pre sent some facts that should be of interest to all WAKELON PLAYS WENDELL HERE WEDNESDAY NIGHT The Wakelon Bulldogs, unde feated this season, will play their arch rivals, Wendell, in the Wake lon gym next Wednesday night at 7:30. Wakelon was victorious in both contests of the two-game series played last year. However, Wen dell, with a much stronger team, p'ans to down the jinx which stopped them last season. Wendell has won three of nine games played. Wakelon will be led by Hardin Hinton. Hardin shoots with' either hand and is one of the hard est men to guard on the Wakelon squad. Forest “Baby” Mitchell, diminutive bit of dynamite, will be in there to add spark to the Bull dogs. J. P. Liles is high scorer for Wendell, and is to play versus Hardin Hinton. Rayford Jeffreys, out part of the season, is also ex pected to star for the Wendell Bears. A preliminary game will he played by the girls’ teams of the two schools. Sally Young and Na omi Herndon will probably star for Wendell. Ruby Alford and Janet Massey are Wakolon’s stand-outs. FILLING STATIONS LOOTED On Tuesday night some one en tered the Sinclair, Texaco and Standard filling stations in Zebu lon and stole cigarettes, candies, pennies from the cash drawers and other articles. They also entered the P. F. Massey store through a back window, but Mr. Massey ha=- not missed anything. THE ZEBULON RECORD our readers. We are printing double our usual number of copies—enough to supply every family in Zebulon and on the rural routes. We hope you will read this paper carefully. We believe you will have a better appreciation of Zebulon and its business concerns and find that there is no need for you to go elsewhere to supply any of your farm or home needs. If you have been thinking of moving to town, consider Zebulon and its advantages, with other towns. We be lieve few towns offer residential advantages from every consideration that ours does. Then, incidentally, we would like to call your attention to The Zebulon Record. It is not a large newspaper, but we try to fill its pages with interesting and worth-while news and articles. The price is only SI.OO. Excuse us for saying it, but we believe the Record is well worth its price. Send us SI.OO and try reading it a year. Then if you are not satisfied that you got at least a dollar’s worth of infor mation, come in and we will refund your money with interest. Now go on reading the rest of the Record! GENERAL NEWS Snow, Slide, Stop Some people were wise enough Wednesday morning not to at tempt driving their cars from garages. Others were less sensi ble or fortunate. A snow per haps four inches deep covered the ground. On top had fallen a coat of hard sleet or hail. Going down town one could see a car stalled just outside the garage, another on the highway, and still others on side streets and downtown. Many business people walked to their work. The car owner having chains was lucky. Riding or walking, it was snow, slip, slide, stop. Nearly all rural schools were closed till Monday. Raleigh had 5 1-2 inches of snow, Greensboro 9 to 14 inches, High Pint 19 inches, Asheville 5 to 6 inches, Mt. Mitchell 15 inch es. Down east was not quite so bad. However, Henderson had 12 inches. With Fayetteville having only 2 inches. Thursday morning opened clear and cold. Weather forecasts indi cated a continuance of cold weath er with a possibility of more snow. Patronize Our Advertisers Junior Chamber Os Commerce Is Live-Wire Outfit The most lusty organization in Zebulon is that young wide-a-wake up-and-doing organization that had its birth in 1939, known as the Jr. Chamber of Commerce. No lo cal organization has ever shown uch rapid growth and accomplish ed so much in so short a time a he JC’s have done. The officer: re Robert Daniel Massey, Presi lent; Jesse Narron, Secretary Treasurer. After effecting an organization the young men put on a trade boosting campaign by offering through the merchants and other business people of the town tickets. From these were drawn each Saturday numbers giving the successful winners prizes ranging from SI.OO to SIOO.OO. This cam paign no doubt helped business. It brought hundreds of people to Zebulon each Saturday whether they traded much or not. The JC’s have not yet an nounced their “project” for 1940, but no doubt they will have some thing good for the town and its business. Only one thing we believe would be better and that is an organization that actively engages nil the business men of the town. Why not organize a business men’s club, making any one eligible to membership? Or perhaps a gener al Chamber of Commerce would be better. But if this is not possible, then by all means let’s encourage these wide-a-wake young men in 'heir program. They have done aj stood work. Let us encourage them to keep it going. The Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society is recognized, 1 financially, as the nation’s strong est fraternal benefit society, hav ing assets in excess of 129 million ! dollars. It has paid more than 300 million dollars in benefits to liv- j ing members and beneficiaries since organization in 1890. On June 6th it will mark its 50th an niversary, with celebrations plan ned by nearly all of its more than 8,000 local camps. There are 406 such camps in North Carolina. It snowed and sleetpd this week, or did you know that?
