£ Friday, November 28,1941 Miss Eunice Outlaw of Pen derlea spent the holidays at her home here. She has suffered con' siderably recently from an injury i to her left hand and forearm which were caught in an electric washer, the release of which had not been properly adjusted. The injury is healing well, however. Miss Sadie Fleming of Boone ville arrived Wednesday night of last week to visit her sister, Mrs. C. V. Whitley, until Sunday. Charles Whitley, junior at V. P. 1., Blacksburg, Va., was home for the Thanksgiving vacation, coming by Lynchburg to attend his school football game Thurs' day. Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Herring will attend the Homecoming at o#Rnford First Baptist church next Sunday. Mr. Herring will speak the morning service. Mrs. R. P. Newcombe of Wilm ington visited Mrs. J. D. Horton at Thanksgiving. R K. Horton was at home for the week end with his mother, Mrs. J. D. Horton. Jeffrey Carter of the U. S. Ma rines, stationed in Puerto Rico, reached home on Thursday of last week. He has thirty days furlough to spend with his mother, Mrs. J. E. Carter. It was impossible for him to reach home before the fun eral of his father. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. G. Flowers. t Miss Inez Pitts returned to High Point Sunday after the Thanksgiving vacation at home here. The Irving Cherrys and sons of Stokes were up for Thanks giving Day with Mrs. Cherry's parents, the John Broughtons. Mrs. Lester Green accompanied her sister back to Stokes for a few days' visit. Mrs. D. W. Stallings is spend ing most of her time in Raleigh at the bedside of her father, J. G. Pearce, who is critically ill in Rex Hospital. Ruric Gill was in Rex Hospital for a tew days last week, but is at present much improved. Mrs. Lucy Holton and LuciUi Holton of near New Bern were in Zebulon and Wakefield a short while Sunday morning. They were en route to Rocky Mount where Robert Holton was in a hospital, but able to be taken home that day. The Holtons, formerly lived in Zebulon and Mrs. Holton re tains her interest in friends here. Ryan Holton and Rachel, the only daughter, are both married and live in New York. Robert works with the Coast Line R. R. Charles, who is married, lives at New Bern. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Pearce arc moving into the lower floor apart ment of the C. A. Flowers place, until recently occupied by the C. F. Allen family. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Dawson, Jr., were here from Southern Pines for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Judd Robertson went last . week to a Raleigh hospital for a minor operation. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Massey will begin housekeeping soon in the Massey house at the edge of Zebulon on the Rocky Mount highway. Mr. and Mrs. Vester Brantley and baby son were up from Woodland for the school holiday, visiting in the L. B. Sawyer home. Mrs. Jennie Revere of Raleigh spent Sunday here with Miss Matoka Pace and Mrs. A. N. Jones. A- letter from Lieut. Graham Chamblce to his parents says that while he was away on maneuvers all his wearing apparel was burned. He is located at Fort Jackson. About 20 other men lost their clothing in the same fire. He did not know how the fire origi nated. A lieutenant has to buy his own clothes and they are much more expensive than a private’s, so this loss was considerable to the young man. Douglas Chamblee and three of his friends from State College spent Thanksgiving with Douglas' parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Chamblee. The friends were: Paul Lowder, Aubrey Goodson and George Wilson. Miss Frankie Hall of Penderlea spent part of the Thanksgiving vacation at home, then went to Washington on Friday to visit friends. The Wayne Colliers went to Linden for Thanksgiving Day ! with relatives. The Zebulon Record Miss Alma Joyner, teaching this year at Cerro Gordo, was home for Thanksgiving vacation Wayne Pnvette is taking a course in radio at State College, Raleigh Miss Dorothy Horton came home last week form Rex Hos pital, where she went for a minor operation. Miss Dorothy Herndon Horton is at home from W. C. U. N. C. and is confined to her room by s<ime trouble with her foot which has not been definitely diagnosed. The small son of the Braxton Chamblecs had two accidents last week. He fell, cutting a gash that required stitches in his forhead. Later, he had a collision with a car driven by Irby Gill, fell again and burst the stitches, which had ! to be replaced. He is walking ex tra carefully this week. Miss Edna Earle Sexton was home from Greenville for Thanks giving. Rtv. Ralph J. Kirby and family of Whytheville, Va., and Mrs. L. B. Kirby of Tunstall, Va., were Thanksgiving guests of Mr. and Mrs. Z. N. Culpepper. Rev. Kirby is a brother of Mrs. Cul pepper and Mrs. L. B. Kirby is her mother. Mrs. Kirby is spend ing some time with her daughter. Mr. and Mrs. B. V. Chamblee of Asheville spent the early part of the week in Zebulon with the Billy Chamblecs. Zebulon . 2t BIRTHDAY DINNER On last Sunday the birthday of Mr. R. C. Allen was celebrated at the Allen home, Zebulon, with a turkey dinner served in the din ing room. Those present included Mr. Dexton Hinton of Zebulon, Mr. and Mrs. Garrin Gay and family of Zebulon, Mrs. Zula Watson of Louisburg, Mrs. Annie Allen ofßaleigh, Mr. and Mrs. J. A Allen and children of Yadkinvillc, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Allen and boys of Raleigh. TEMPPLE CHAMPION On November twentieth at the home of Dr. Forrest Feezor in Raleigh Miss Ruth Champion was united in marriage to Mr. Earl Jackson Temple. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Feezor, pastor of the Tabernacle church, ! in the presence of members of the families. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Sallie Champion of Raleigh. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Temple of Zebu lon. He was until this year em ployed in Zebulon, but now has a position in Raleigh where they will make their home. BIRTHDAY PARTY On last Saturday night Cole man Denton celebrated his 17th birthday by giving a party to his friends. After playing games, re freshments were served. It was a very enjoyable occasion for all present. Those helping to celebrate this happy occasion were: Will ard Dean Edwards, Mildred Oak ley, Dorothy Mae Oakley, Floyd Eubanks, Harold Denton, Willis Blackley, Edgar Oakley, Fred Pittman, Geraldine Hagwood, I Mildred Hagwood and Carolyn j Mangum. ’GARDEN CLUB i The Garden Club will hold the ; December me t’ng on Tuesday, t the 16th. At this time the or ganization will be hostess to the Woman's Club and all others in terested are cordially invited The decorative display will be appro priate to the Christmas season and helpful ideas will be presented. Dr. John Wright, rector of Christ's church, Raleigh, will be guest speaker. The Club is most fortunate in securing him for the occasion and a program of special intested is assured.
