DEBNAM HONORED AT PARTY One of the loveliest parties r.f the season was given Thursday evening, when Mesdames Russel Temple and Donald Stallings were joint hostesses to five tables of bridge and one of rook, honor ing Mrs. Wilbur T. Debnam, re cent bride. Several attractive ar rangements of cut flowers were used effectively in the living room where the games were in progress Follo'-'ing the usua l number of progressions, high and low score prizes were awarded to Miss Don nie Williams and Mrs. Foster Finch, respectively. Bingo prize went to Mrs. J. R. Horton. Ihe honoree was given china and sil ver in her chosen patterns. Late in the evening the hostess es, assisted by Mrs. H. C. DEBNAM HONORED AT CLUB Miss Mary Barrow, bride-elect of February, and Mrs. Wilbur T. Debnam, recent bride were hon ored recently when Miss Ruby Dawson entertained her bridge club and other guests at the home of Mrs. Robert Dawson in Zebulon. The living and dining rooms were thrown ensuite and in each of these were arrangements of cut flowers. When scores were tallied, hold ers of high were Mrs. J. R. Saw yer and Mrs. Wallace Chamblee. Low went to Miss Ruby Martin. The hostess presented Miss Ear row and Mrs. Debnam silver in each of their chosen patterns. Mrs. Margaret Ford was remem bered with a gift. Campen delightfully entertained members of her bridge club and other guests which in cluded Mesdames Russell Brant ley, J. V. Cox, Helen Gregory and Lois M. Wall; Misses Ena Dell Anderson, Mary Palmer, Annie Lou Alston, Deane Hardison and Dorothy Brake. Upon arrival of the guests the hostess served a dessert course with coffee. Upon completion of the games high score prizes went to Mes dames Lois M. Wall and Wallace Chamblee. Low went to Miss Dor othy Brake. Club members present were Mesdames Irby Gill, C. E. Flow ers, W. D. Spencer, G. S. Barbee, L. M. Massey and Wallace Cham blee. JUNIOR CLUB E. C. Daniel, Jr., was speaker at the January meeting of the Junior Woman’s Club, discuss mg the present situation in England and answering questions asked by members. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Os borne helped on the program by singing a duet. WOMAN’S CLUB The January meeting of the Wo man’s Club was held last week with Mrs. Wallace Temple presid ing Those present heard with in terest a discussion of Post-War Planning for Peace by Dr. Roma Cheek of Raleigh. Dr. Cheek is | secretary of the State Commission; for the Blind. Dr. Cheek was introduced by Mrs. J. G. Kemp club chairman of International Relations. C., announce the birth .of a daughter, Patricia Ann, Jan. ■ 18th, 1944. Mrs. Upchurch was formerly Miss Melba Lee Batche lor, Zebulon, Route 2. Mrs. N. H. Batchelor is spend ing some time with her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Upchurch, 253 Mt. Olivet Road, N. E., Washington, D. C. Mrs. Edwin Richardson and children have moved into the house with the W. L. De itons until their own home can be repaired following the recent fire which partially burned it. Mr. Richard son was home from Wilmington for a few days last week. Mrs. H. A. Averette and daugh ter, Nan, of Durham, and Arnold Averette of Delhi, Canada, spent Friday and Saturday of last week in the W. L. Simpson home. Mrs. J. S. Pulley is much im proved and her daughter, Mrs. David Johnson, has returned to her home in Wilmington. Mrs. J. W. Tyler of New York came last week to see her sisters, Mrs. Rodney Murray and Mrs. Sidney Hall. Miss Bessie May Pulley came last Friday from Washington, D. C., to spend several days with her parents, the James Pulleys, here. Letha Mae, daughter of the W. L. Simpsons, arrived home Jan. 15 from Baltimore to spend her vacation with the family and friends. She returned to her work Saturday, Jan. 20. Misses Yantis and Mildred Sol omon of Rocky Mount spent the week end at their home near Zeb ulon. Mrs. M. D. Terry has moved in to the home with her daughter and family, the W. L. Simpsons, for the time being, on account of sick ness. She has had flu and almost pneumonia. Dave Finch, formerly a student at V. P. 1., Blacksburg, Va. is now at Ft. Meade, Md., a member of the Air Corps. W. F. Winstead of Ransomville is here visiting his daughters, Mrs. Irby Gill and Mrs. Robert Daw son. Cpl. Donald Joyner has returned to Camp Gowen Field, Idaho, af ter spending his furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Joyner of Zebulon. He is an aerial gunner, and received his training at Wendover Field, Utah.. Donald’s brother, Dexter C., spent the week-end at home. He is in the maritime service. He took his training at Shopshead Bay, Brooklyn, N. Y. Miss Elizabeth Broughton came Pom Swansboro for the week-end with her parents, the John Broughtons. Among former residents of Zeb ulon here for the burial service for J. M. Whitley last Saturday were Baylus Whitley of Siler City,; Mrs. G. xl. Ferguson of Raleigh and Mr. Ferguson; Mrs. Willia Marshburn, Raleigh; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Whitley, Rocky Mount: Norman Stone, Winston-Salem. Lt. and Mrs. David C. Pearce, Jr., announce the birth of a son, David C., 111., January 8, in Spartanburg, S. C. Mrs. Pearce was formerly Miss Elizabeth Ann Smith of Lakeland, Florida. Miss Faye Carter, daughter of Mrs. Utrice Carter of Zebulon and a freshman at Western Carolina Teachers College, made an inter esting talk on the “Freedom of Speech” at a recent meeting of the International Relations Club of the college. Miss Sadie Fleming of Boon ville was here for the weekend 4 n the home of her sister, Mrs. C. V. Whitley. Rodney Murray is no longer with Zebulon Supply Company, having taken a position as bus driver for Carolina Coach Com pany. Mrs. Frank Cooper has heard from her husband, Lt. Cooper, that he has arrived safely in Eng land. Mrs. Cooper went to New York to see her husband just be fore he sailed. Mr. and Mrs. Ober Horton have moved to Zebulon and occupy an apartment above City Market. Their country home was recently destroyed by fire. Misses Elizabeth Williams, Mel ba Parker and Eula Lee Denton, all of Washington, D. C., have been visiting in the homes of their parents here for several days. R. H.
