Page Two WAKEFIELD NEWS By Mrs. Vera Rhodes Well, I am glad to report all our are healed but the Devils are not all cast out yet. I wish very much we could raise the dead this morning. I just heard of the death of Dr. Carl Townsend over my radio and it grieves me very much. He was such a good man, and preacher too. I know he will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Mrs. L. G. Faulkner was a Ra leigh visitor Saturday. Miss Minda Green is spending the week-end with Mrs. P. P. Pace. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Friedman and daughter are spending some time with her mother, Mrs. Helen Jones. Mrs. Lucy Bunn was with the crowd that went to the barbecue dinner given by W. J. Perry. Am sorry I left her out when I named them last week. Excuse me, Lucy, I didn’t mean to. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carroll of Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Carroll spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Vera Rhodes and the H. A. Hodges, Jr. Mrs. Vera Rhodes and Mrs. Ri ley Privette went to the opening sales Monday at Wilson. Mrs. Rhodes and the Cunningham boys averaged 55 cents for tobacco. The Baraca Class of Wakefield Baptist Church entertained the Philatheas Saturday at the Church with a pig and chicken barbecue with all the trimmings and cool drinks. We had a big crowd and a swell time. We all enjoyed it im mensely. Little Teddy Pippin has been visiting her grandmother, Mrs. T. C. Pippin, this week. Hendricks and Mrs. Vera Rhodes went to the Wendell Cannery again Tuesday and can ned 21 quarts green peas, 16 ap ple sauce, 14 grape juice, 34 to mato juice. We had a wonderful time. It’s a pleasure to can over there. You get good cooperation and they are such nice people to work with. Mr. Bolding asked me to say the cannery would be open for canning two afternoons a week, Tuesday and Thursday, be ginning September 1. But you ran get a lot done on those two days if you go and work. Mrs. Wiley Broughton is home with her new baby. Her parents from South Caro lina are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wil lis for a few days. Mr. Willis and Uncle Bill Broughton went fishing last week and roped them. I am going soon and see if I can bridle a few.
