Friday, February 20, 1948 Old Leapin’ Lena, the decrepit fire-wagon of the Zebulon Fire Department, has finally been put out to pasture. Just before the last big snow her replacement, a new $7,000 vehicle, arrived, and Leapin’ Lena lurched her last. Here the truck is pictured at the last fire it was used against, the second-floor blaze at the Lucas Milling Company. Two days later the truck answered a standby call at the C. B. As the truck rolled down Hor ton Street to the Eddins residence at a steady five miles per hour, Worth Hinton was clocked turning the siren at 45 miles per hour. One of the town commissioners suggested that the siren be geared to the engine and the wheels be geared to Worth, but the new fire truck arrived before such action was required. Mrs. Valmore Jones spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Jones. She also visited her grandson at Mr. Hubert Bunn’s on Sunday. Master George Ray celebrated his sth birthday Saturday the 14, at his home. All of his friends were present. and cake were served to the little ones. Cadwin Cone was home from Mullins, S. C. Victor Stallings of Raleigh was home with his mother, Mrs. Ma mie Stalling, Sunday. The Woman’s Missionary So ciety was postponed, due to bad weather. Mr. and Mrs. Rgy Todd and Jan, and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Chap pell and Elliott, of Raleigh were home with their parents on Sun day. Misses Doris Cone and Mary Baker of Rocky Mount visited with Bonita Bunn last Thursday night. Miss Mamie Lewis of Emporia, Va. visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Lewis last week.
