Pou Bailey, chairman of the Advancement Committee for the Occoneechee Council, Boy Scouts of America, spoke last Friday night to the Zebulon Ro tary Club on the future of rural Scouting, giving some of the methods of bringing Scouting to the farm boys. The Rotarians, who sponsor both the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Zebulon, were extreme ly interested in the talk, and at the close of Bailey’s address, Pres ident Ralph Talton referred the possibility of rural Scouting in this community to the Community | Service Committee. The speaker gave a description of the new Boy Scout camp on Neuse River which is now under construction. A similar camp for Negro Scouts is being built in Moore County. Scouts from all over North Carolina will be able to attend these two camps. Visitors for this meeting were James Little and Will Wyatt of Raleigh, and Philip Whitley of Wendell. Group 2, which includes R. Vance Brown, Ed Ellington, Pat Farmer, and Ollie Glover, have arranged for the supper. Their next turn to feed the club will come April 30. Other groups with time of next meal they serve are: Group 3: Ralph Talton, How ard Beck, and Rodney McNabb, March 12. Group 4: Sidney Eddins, Mel vin Massey, Vester Brantley, and G. C. Stores Plan Closing On Easter Monday Zebulon stores will remain clos ed Easter Monday, March 29, if plans initiated by local merchants this week are carried through. Nearly every store owner express ed a willingness to declare the day after Easter a business holiday so that employees can enjoy a long Easter weekend. Plans are also being worked out for stores to close each Wednes day afternoon at 1:00 beginning April 7 and continuing through the summer months. This mid week closing was carried out last year with success. Store owners who cannot work these closing dates in with their business plans are asked to com municate with Barrie Davis, sec retary of the Chamber of Com merce, so that some date suitable to all merchants can be chosen. Mrs. Ruric Gill Is Hostess at Bridge The Diamond Bridge Club met Thursday night with Mrs. Ruric Gill as hostess. Beautiful spring flowers were used throughout the house. After four progressions of bridge were played, awards of high, low, and floating were w r on by Mrs. Howard Beck and Mrs. Garland Godwin. Later in the evening a dessert course with sandwiches and cof fee was served to the following members: Mesdames James Al ford, Pat Farmer, Ralph Talton, Howard* Beck, Garland Godwin, Eldred Rountree, Douglas Finch, and W. I am sorry I made a mistake in the report last week, but I jam not use to there being five Sundays in Feb. It hasn’t hap pened but once in my life time and I don’t guess it will happen but jnce more. Any way we had church last Sunday night. I am glad I could go, it was a very good sermon. I wish all could have heard it, so come next time and you won’t be sorry. AN APPRECIATION Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Wayne is also very grateful for money given him by the people in the community. Rev. Theo. Davis went last Sun day to Fayetteville to spend a few days with his son, Ted Davis, and family, making the trip with the Ferd Davises and children. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Anderson of Eagle Rock visited friends in Zebulon Sunday afternoon. Dr. and Mrs. L. M. Massey will be in Washington, D. C. the last of this week and the first of next. Dr. Massey will attend the Five- State Dental Conference. Z. N. Mrs. J. A. Cawthorne has been seriously ill since Tuesday, when she suffered a cerebral hemor rhage. She is in the hospital.
