ed for the contest, Haywood Jones,
representative of the drug store,
announced. The size and weight
of the fish will be kept secret all
week, and on Saturday, May 1,
the prizes will be awarded to the
winners.
The skill and knowledge of ex
pert fishermen, such as J. N. John
son and Robert Phillips, will be
tried to the limit in this contest.
Haywood said that it does not mat
ter whether a bamboo pole or a
rod and reel is used. All that
matters is the fish!
Pre-School Clinic to Be
Held for Negroes Soon
Colored schools in Wake County
will have their pre-school clinics
beginning Tuesday, April 13, Dr.
A. C. Bulla, Wake County Health
Officer, announced this morning.
Every child about to enter school
for the first time will have an ex
amination and be vaccinated a
gainst smallpox, diphtheria, and
whooping cough, if this has not
already been done.
If any defects are found in the
children, they should be correct
ed before the child enters school,
Mrs. Ida Hall, County Health
Nurse, stated. This engagement,
she said, is to talk over with the
parents the physical condition of
their children.

Entertains at Bridge
Mrs. Garland Godwin enter
tained her bridge club Thursday
night at her home in Zebulon. Lil
acs and spring flowers in attrac
tive arrangements decorated the
living room.
On arrival, each member was
presented a tally carrying out the
spring motif and three progres
sions of bridge were played.
Afterwards, awards of high,
low, and floating were given to
Mrs. Pat Farmer, Mrs. Bob Saw
yer, and Mrs. Ruric Gill. Deli
cious refreshments were served to
the following members: Mes
dames James Alford, Ralph Tal
ton, Vance Brown, Bob Sawyer,
Howard Beck, W. B. Bunn, Pat
Farmer and Ruric Gill.
Wakelon 9th Grade
Visits Durham Paper
Members of the ninth grade of
Wake High School visited the pub
lishing plant of the Durham Morn
ing Herald and The Durham Sun
and the broadcasting studios of
the Herald-Sun Stations, WDNC
and WDNC-FM, on Wednesday,
April 7, as part of their tour of
points of interest in Durham. The
students, accompanied by their
teacher, Miss Frances Thackston,
came to Durham by special bus
and spent the morning at Duke
University. They returned to Zeb
ulon late in the afternoon after
lunching in Durham.
Each year the ninth grade class
of Wakelon makes an out-of-town
trip, and this year the members
of the class chose Durham as the
place they would like to visit

The Wakelon Bulldogs dropped ;

afternoon. The vistors collected j
twelve hits in topping the local j
nine, 10-5.
Robert Kitchings led the Bull
dogs at bat with hree hits for four
times at the plate. Finch batted |
two for four. R. P. Pearce went
the full seven innings on the i
mound for Wakelon.
For the winners, Mitchell swat
ted three for five, anJ Todd and
Lovelace did the pitching. Todd
was the winning pitcher.
