Rev. Mark Osborne
To Enter Seminary
Last Sunday morning the Rev.
Mark R. Osborne, Jr., pastor of
the Cullowhee Baptist Church, j
tendered his resignation to become
effective June 1. It was the day of
his third anniversary as pastor
here.
He stated in his resignation:
“We earnestly desire to continue
our training at the Southern Bap
tist Theological Seminary in
Louisville, Ky. Our decision has
been partially intensified by your
generous response to our ministry,
especially during the past year.”
The Cullowhee church has pro
gressed rapidly under Mr. Os
borne’s leadership. Attendance at
worship services has grown,
church finances have shown a
marked increase, and the unity
among the membership has been
greatly strengthened.
Prior to coming to Cullowhee
Mr. Osborne was a senior an
nouncer on the staff of radio sta
tion WPTF in Raleigh in addition
to serving churches at Pearce's,
Bailey and Stanhope in the Zeb
ulon area. While living in Zebulon
he commuted to Wake Forest Col
lege, and Mrs. Osborne taught in
the Wakelon High School. She was
later head of the Spanish depart
ment of Raleigh’s Needham
Broughton High School. While
here Mrs. Osborne has taught in
the modern language department
at Western Carolina Teachers Col
lege.
Mr. Osborne is a musician and
a humorist and has been in de
mand for programs of entertain
ment in civic and religious circles
throughout Western North Caro
lina during the past three years.
Mrs. Osborne joining him in vocal
and instrumental achievements.
He also assists numerous churches
as a singer in evangelistic cam
paigns and has promoted exten
sively the youth work of his de
nomination.
The Osbornes have a baby
daughter, Betsy, now nineteen
months old, who will accompany
them to Louisville in June. She
will probably be enrolled at the
Seminary too, since there is an
excellent nursery school.
Miss Corinne Bissette of Pilot
was a week-end guest of Miss
Jean Dickerson at Meredith Col
lege in Raleigh, attending the Sat
urday afternoon May Day Fete.
She returned home on Sunday
Sunday afternoon.
