Ware-Hester Dr. Joseph Robert Hester an nounces the marriage of his daughter, Susie Nelson, to Dr. John Ware, on Thursday afternoon June 10th 1948, in the Naval Chapel at Bethesda Maryland. Mrs. Ware attended Meredith College and graduated from High Point College and the Raleigh Commercial School. She was em ployed by the U. S. Health Depart ment in Washington, D. C Robert Hester, of New York a brother of the bride, and organist played the nuptial music. Dr. and Mrs. Ware are expected In Wendell around June 25 for a week’s visit. able number of cattle from neigh boring states are being brought to North Carolina auction markets in violation of a regulation requiring compliance with minimum health standards. This regulation stipu lates that cattle entering the state, except for immediate slaughter, shall be accompanied by a proper health certificate signed by an ac credited veterinarian approved by the livestock sanitary official of the state of origin. Two convictions for violation of this regulation were recently ob tained in Mecklenburg county, Dr. Faulhaber said. In both instances truck drivers for cattle dealers were found guilty of bringing cat tle to a Charlotte livestock auction market, without having obtained health certificates. “The purpose of this regula tion”, the veterinarian said, “is to safeguard our livestock industry against the spread of the dreaded Bang’s disease and other infecti ous maladies. We have spent many thousands of dollars to eradicate Bang’s and tuberculosis in North Carolina and now we have the finest record of any state in the union in the control of Bang’s dis ease. Our diary and beef cattle herds represent an investment of millions of dollars and we cannot afford to jeopardize them by per mitting the entry from other states of unauthorized animals that may be diseased. “Most of those in the livestock business are cooperating whole heartedly with us by scrupulously observing the regulations. They realize the importance of adequate control measures as a means of protecting a growing industry. Some violations occur, however, and we are determined to stamp them out in the intereest of all concerned.” Dr. Faulhaber suggested that Boy to Receive Calf Billy Green of Zebulon, Route 4, will be one of ten lucky 4-H boys to receive a purebred Guernsey, Holstein, or Jersey calf in front of the County Courthouse in Raleigh this afternoon at 2 o’clock. It’s all in set-up of the Calf Foundation, formed last fall by the Agricultural Committee of the Ral eigh Chamber of Commerce. The calves are given to boys and girls selected by a group of dairymen, farmers and businessmen with the agreement that they raise the calf and give back to the Foundation the first heifer calf. serve [ UICEIAND I l HICV. o" cn ; | | Rich in energy-1 Bfv Low to 1 cost \ .
