Page Two THE WAGES OF CARELESSNESS Here lie the remains of a driver who thought he could drink and still drive a car. Racing down the highway at a dangerous speed, his car wandered off the edge of the pavement, dragged on the sandy shoulder, and was wrenched into a spin. Drunken drivers are potential murderers of every other motorist who comes near them on the road. They were involved in more than 5,000 fatal accidents last year. National Conservation Bureau safety specialists say even one or two drinks slow up reactions, make judgment unsure, increase chances of accident three to four times. Five Small Girls Saved from Drowning A tragedy was narrowly averted on Monday afternoon when five Zebulon girls, walking in shallow water at Lake Myra, stepped in a hole over their heads. Quick rescue work by Ep Wiggs saved the five girls from possible drowning. They were Peggy Lew is, Patsy Brantley, Mener Moody, Camille Lewis and Madgelene Lewis.
