Friday, July 16,1948 Reception Held at Club For 25th Anniversary On Saturday, July 10, Mr. and Mrs. Worthington Lester Greene, entertained at a reception at the Zebulon Woman’s Club, celebrat ing the twenty-fifth anniversary of iheir marriage. The club house was decorated with arrangements of mixed summer flowers. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Herring greeted the guests. Miss Margaret Barrow made the introductions to the receiving line composed of Mr. and Mrs. Greene and their chil- William, Ronald, Warren, and Zelma; Mr. and Mrs. John Brough ton, parents of Mrs. Greene; Rev. and Mrs. Carlton Mitchell, and Dr. and Mrs. George J. Griffin of Wake Forest. Dr. and Mrs. Clarence Corbett of Dunn directed the guests to the dining room. The table was covered with a cutwork linen cloth and centered with an arrangement of all white flowers in a silver bowl. White tapers in silver candelabra were used. Mrs. John K. Barrow, Sr., poured lime ice. Sandwiches, cakes, mints, and nuts were serv ed by Mesdames Mack Roberts, Horace Perry, Bill O’Neal, Erwin Cherry and Misses Jo Ann Rob erts and Artelia Bailey. Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Barham directed guests to the gift room where Mesdames S. H. Hoyle, Hil liard Greene and Bradley Rob erts presided. Mrs. Fred A. Mangum and Mrs. Eugene Bailey presided over the register. Goodbyes were said to Mr. and Mrs. Theo. B. Davis by the ap proximately 200 guests who called during the evening. UPCHURCH General Repair Work On Automobiles—Trucks—Tractors FIRE SATURDAY Fire broke out in the upstairs of the Ellis aprtment house in north-east Zebulon late Saturday night and burned over the second floor before volunteer firemen, us ing the new truck and equipment for the first time, could bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire is not known. After some difficulty in connect ing the hydrant to the pumping equipment, the firemen began to fight the blaze. Although the water pressure in the mains was low, the boost pump on the truck provided more than enough pres sure. Hose was stretched over 800-ft. to reach the fire, and two lengths of old hose were necessary. One of these lengths burst because of the high water pressure and had to be replaced. The new truck was given credit for saving the house from com plete destruction, and the volun teer firemen were praised for the work they did under extreme dif ficulty. Successful Dairying Result of Hard Work During the past seven years, Ralph Beane of State Road Com munity, Surry County, has come a long way up the ladder of success ful dairying, says County Agent Neill M. Smith. Mr. Beane’s milk production has grown steadily from less than 30 pounds daily delivered to a milk route to 200 pounds daily at the present time. He is now planning to construct a 12-cow Grade “A” dairy barn next fall, indicating that he will further expand his production. Mr. Beane’s pasture and hay production program is well under The Zebulon Record Mrs. B. C. Baker Is Hostess to W. M. S. The Woman’s Missionary Soci ety of Wakefield Baptist Church met in the home of Mrs. B. C. Baker on Monday night, July 12. There were 21 members, and three visitors present. The meet ing opened with a song which was followed by prayer with Mrs. Kimball. Scripture reading by Mrs. W. J. Perry was followed by a very interesting talk by Mrs. Carlton Mitchell, of Zebulon Bap tist Church, who spoke on “The Rural Church and Its Needs.” Mrs. T. C. Pippin entertained with a solo, followed Mrs. Perry with the prayer of dismissal. After a short business session the meeting was adjourned and the hostess served ice cream and cake. The August meeting will be with Mrs. Vera Rhodes and Mrs. Lida Bridges. way, with orchard grass, Ladino clover, and alfalfa being grown.
