Page Twelve PILOT NEWS The W. M. U. held its regular meeting on Saturday night with a splendid group present for the fine service. Bud Stallings of Raleigh spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Stallings. His girl friend, Miss Opal Hodge, was also visiting them. Miss Mamie Lewis of Emporia, Va., spent the weekend with her mother. Our Sunday School attendance is very poor due to the absence of the children. We hope they will soon be able to come back again. Mrs. Minda Alford and Mr. and Mrs. LeEarl Alford of Durham spent Sunday with Mrs. O. D. fallings. Mr. Dafus Bissette visited in this community on Sunday. It was a relief to find the fault was in my method, not in the flour. Have you ever tried using but termilk in making yeast rolls? Do not heat the but termilk, but otherwise proceed as when using sweet milk. The rolls will keep soft longer than when sweet milk is used, and warm over most satisfactorily. The youngest son has one of those wire recorder machines, and not long ago he made a recording of one of our pastor’s sermons with music and all the morning service. It sounded good, especially Nellie Kemp’s solo. I knew the re cording was being done and was much interested. But I did not not know when Barrie brought the machine home and set it down near our dinner table, nor that all we said and did was being taken down. When Bar rie told us, and began playing the record it was almost embarrassing. Robert Burns wished that some power would give us the ability to see ourselves as others see us. I haven’t done that yet, but have heard myself as others hear me. So did my husband. He had not known that in asking the bless ing at meals he ends just above a whisper; nor had I realized the peculiar emphasis I put on some words. Grandson Leary blushed to hear how he sounded. But worst of all was the noise J. M. Chevrolet Co. Chevrolets Oldsmobiles Little River Ice Co. Quality and Service PHONE 2871 ! GRADING | * FISH PONDS * AND CLEARING * * CONTACT— % ! It sounded like pigs with metal hooves running across a ridge. Unless that machine exag gerated, the Davises need a few lessons in table etiquette. There is no doubt that meat prices are high; too high for av erage and less than average pock etbooks. There is a measure of doubt as to where the blame should be placed. Some house wives—and this has reached as near home as Raleigh—are on a buyers’ strike and say they will do without meat until prices are low er. That may be the best way to get desired results; I don’t know. Somehow I can’t blame local markets for prices. If I felt ours were deliberately holding up pric es, I'd boycott them, not only for the period we are going through now, but for all my life—or theirs. Os course meat is terribly high. Farmer Friends The stop sign "Drive In" not only sounds better to us on our home market, but also gives us the assurance of the high dollar for our tobacco. Wendell Market will be looking for you August 19th with your first load of tobacco. \ Remembrance is a golden chain that binds hearts together, so also remember we are in a position now to offer you the following- Disc Harrows and Smoothing Harrows Hay Wire Aluminum and Galvanized Roofing One and Two Horse Wagons Collars , Bridles and Harnesses Oil Heaters and Floor Furnaces Just Received A Shipment of Hog Wire When it comes to farm supply goods and feed for your stock and better flour for the cook cooking in the kitchen, we certainly can supply your wants.
