Friday, August 20, 1948 Chief Hopkins Doesn't Get Wet at This Fire Last Saturday morning a fire at Beck Brothers Veneer plant brought Zebulon’s new fire truck into action for the second time since it was purchased. The fire truck was called about 3:00 a.m. when workers failed to get a fire burning under stored veneer under control. Chief Willie B. Hopkins said it “was the first fire I ever went to that I didn’t get my clothes wet.” With Night policeman Crowder watching over the hose and em ployees of the veneer plants hand ling the nozzle, all Willie B. had to do was supervise.
