Friday, November 5,1948 It's a Great Day, Says This Staunch Democrat Well, this has been a great day for our United States. We who went to the polls and cast a vote selected our great leader for the next term of Presidency. I do hope each of you voted for the right one. lam sure I did. I am a Democrat bred and a Democrat born and when I am dead, there will be a Democrat gone. We had two very sad and tragic deaths the past weekend. Ronnie Lee Perry, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Page Perry, was instantly killed in his father’s front yard Thursday night. He was one out of a family of five children. Be ye also ready for ye know not the day nor the hour when you will be called to pay the debt of death. Just like he did. We all are in great sympathy for the family and relatives and friends. May God bless you all and give you courage to bear the sorrow that is on you at this time. I was coming home on a narrow dirt road last Thursday p.m. I came around a curve in the road and there stood a truck parked de liberately in the middle of the road about ten yards away. I couldn’t stop so I decided it looked the widest on the right hand side so I went by on a wing and a prayer and made it by a hair, and our hair is not down normal yet. I hope I never experience that again. If I had been driving a big car I could never have made it. We sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. John Clark and family in the death of a son, Fred. He is one of 13 children—a nice big family. I can’t name them all so I won’t try. Just remember the Lord doesn’t put any more on us than we can stand. We had our Building Fund Day Sunday and raised SIOO7 with about 100 present. I hope the ones that were not there will bring or send their contribution in soon and remember the Lord loves a cheerful giver and you don’t have to pay income tax on what you give to the church. So give freely. We had a wonderful sermon by Mr. M. A. Huggins of Raleigh. We are enjoying Mr. Lester Ad- i cock who is here visiting his sis-1 WANTED! TWELVE BOYS! TWELVE GIRLS! He has been here since Friday and will leave for home tomorrow. He now lives in Stanford, Connecticut, has a wife ind three children, and a very nice home there. I had the pleasure of visiting them last sum mer while in New York. It’s a beautiful place. I don’t blame him for liking it there. We hope to go again some time. Mrs. E. W. Hood spent Monday and Tuesday with Mrs. C. M. Rhodes. We went to the Hallow een Party at the school building last night and to Zebulon today to vote for the Right Man for our next President. I guess I better stop. I can’t write for listening to the returns. I have faith that my man, Mr. Truman, will get it so I am going to hit the hay satisfied and get up and go fishing tomorrow and celebrate. Little Wayne Price is still taking treatments at Duke. We pray for his recovery soon. We are sorry to say Mr. O. D. Massey is in Rex Hospital, but he is improving fine. Mr. and Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Mary Kemp and Mr. W. S. Broughton and Mrs. Vera Rhodes attended the Harvest Day sale and barbecue dinner at the Thanks giving Church last Thursday. We had a wonderful time and a swell dinner. It was fun to see the sale. They sold everything from bunches of fat lightwood splinters to money trees. When I was a child and would ask for something my Dad would say money doesn’t grow on trees, but it is now. So we voted for Mr. Truman so it would keep on growing on them. Bed quilts brought $51.00 and bed- Pictures Framed! All pictures, graduation diplomas, and certificates look and keep better in a beautiful frame. Reasonable prices. Expert craftsmanship. Flowers 5c to $5.00 STORE Dalmon Whitley, Prop. The Zebulon Record spreads $87.00. Splinters were $1.75 a bunch. Aprons were $5.00 and down. Collards and turnips sold good. Cakes sold good. They had about 75 cakes, the prettiest I ever saw, and a lot of canned goods. I know they made a lot of cash. They sold two bales of cotton at 35 cents, and cows, hogs, chickens, pumpkins and anything you can mention. There were three auctioneers going all the time and when we left at four they were about half through. They have Mr. Teague as pastor and a beautiful new parsonage for him to live in. They really are doing things in a big way. Praise God for the great work that people are doing for the up building of His Kingdom. Vera Rhodes Pearce Church Plans Supper for Tonight The Pearce Church will hold a supper tonight from 4:30 until 7:30, with pork or chicken barbe cue as the main dish.
