Friday, December 24, 1948 Christmas In Wakefield Dear Santa Claus— I voted for the right man for our next Governor and took my little old ’33 Chewy and hauled in 40 more to do the same for the Hon orable Kerr Scott, our next Gov ernor. I wonder if there is a job for me or a new car in my future when in the New Year. Respectfully, Mrs. Vera Rhodes, Zebulon, N. C., Rt. 4 I am still happy to say my little friend is still on the top line in the contest which will end this week on Thursday. There are several in the contest. There will be several prizes and several happy youngsters that win. I am indeed sorry to hear to day that little Wayne had a bad spell last Saturday. He was ready to come up town to see Old Santy Claus when the spell came on. They rushed him to Duke Hospital! and gave him treatment and had to carry him back and forth each day. I went to see him this p. m. after I heard of his being worse. I made his picture the other day and I took them to him. He was up with his clothes on but he is a sick little fellow. I do hope and pray he will be better soon. His family is in deep suspense over his condition. Let us hope for the best and look on the bright side. I hope he will be able to enjoy Christmas along with the other girls and boys. God bless you, Wayne. Well, it’s turned cold as you all know, and hogs are squealing everywhere. I have been in hog killing since Friday. I am ready to stop now and take Christmas. If old Santa brings me a rod and reel, I’ll be off to Florida in a jiffy to catch a big fish. Christmas Party Our Christmas play and tree will be Christmas Eve night at 7:30. I hope we all can come. It is always worth your time to come and see it. Union Chapel Church will have theirs Thursday night. I hope they have a good crowd for the more the “merrier. I don’t know how many or what they did at Church Sunday, because I had a headache and diqn’t go. Well, Christmas cards are going out and coming in by the armful. It’s nice to get them and also a pleasure to send them. I appre ciate all I get very much. If I have missed anyone, I didn’t mean it. Well, Christmas is here and every one will be coming and go ing. I will not try to tell when, where, or who, because I don’t know. I do know we will soon have another New Year, 1949. We all should be making our New Year’s Resolutions and be man enough to stick to them after we make them. I resolve to do the best I can to attend Church. Sun day School, W. M. By the way, I am president of the Home Demon stration Club for 1949 and when I take over the fourth Wednesday in January at 2:30, all you women, young and old, better be there. If you are not, I am going to faint. We want to build up the club. Alter all, the county furnishes us an agent, Mrs. Maud Mclnnis, whom we have had a long time and whom we like very much. It looks Jike we could take advant age of something that is interest ing and valuable and FREE to us all. So please come and let’s see if we don’t enjoy it a lot. We never get too old to learn and I learn something new everytime I go. For instance, how to remod el our short dresses and clothes and make them wearable. Every one is welcome, so come and give it a trial. I’ll be looking for you. Bye now, and have a Merry Christmas, but don’t forget to come.
