Friday, January 7,1949 Pvt. Carol Pearce Is Assigned to Hawaii Newly assigned to the army’s South Sector Command in Hawaii is Pvt Carol H. Pearce, of Zebu lon, N. C., who is now a member of the garrison at Fort Kame hameha. Pvt. Pearce, who enlisted at Raleigh, N. C. in September, ar rived in Hawaii aboard the USAT General Brewster on November 19. He is serving at present as machine gunner with the 97th Anti-Aircraft Gun Bn. During the war Pearce saw action in the Okinawa and Saipan campaigns as a navy gunner. Be fore he entered the army he work ed in civilian life as a farmer and painter. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs Claude O. Pearce, of Route 2, Zebulon. Personals Beth Massey returned home Tuesday from Rex Hospital where she underwent an appendectomy last week. She is making a good recovery. Mrs. J. W. Harris of Kinston spent the weekend in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ferd Davis, visiting friends in Wake Forest on Monday. Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, who visited relatives in Georgia during the Christmas vacation, was ac companied on her return by her niece, Joan Grote of New York City, who left Zebulon for her home Tuesday. Visitors in the C. S. Chamblee home during the holidays were, Dr. and Mrs. L. T Horton, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Dr. Albert Horton, Norfolk, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Bush, Chapel Hill; Mr. and Mrs. Graham Chamblee and Don Allen, Newport News, Va ; Mr. Douglas Chamblee, Raleigh; Miss Edythe Brooks, Wilmington, Del.; Mrs. J. P.
