Friday, March 18,1949 WAKEFIELD NEWS We had 136 at Sunday School last Sunday and a lot more to come for church. We are glad to have you everyone welcome. Come again. We also had the Girl Scouts and their leader, Mrs. Eugene Privette. We are very proud of them. I think it is a fine organization. We wish them well in their work. We are glad Mrs. R. F. Hen dricks is able to be out again. The Rev. and Mrs. Kermit I Comb and Peter, Steven, Chris topher, and John were dinner guests with us tonight. We en joyed them very much. We will have church next Sunday night at 7:30. Come for we will be glad to see you. A Stanley hostess I’m to be with . pleasure. I’d like to have you as my guest. Please note the time and date. Monday, March 21, at 7:30. Come one, come all. Be on time and join the mun. The more the merrier at my home. There will be a Home Demon stration Club meeting at the Wake field Club house Wednesday, Mar. 23rd, at 2:30. Please be present. The Taylored Look Sewing Dem onstration will be given and you will be taught to put in a zipper the right way. I aways get mine in wrong and have to take it out and try again. Not so with this new way. It’s perfect and that one thing is worth your time to come. Bring a zipper old or new and needle and thread, thimble too. A piece of cloth about 12 inches square and we will show you the rest. Bring your purse and all your dough. A Stanly Party will be given next. I won that silver pastry server last week. It’s beau tiful. If you miss it you will miss a lot of fun. You can get the househo’d supplies you need, and we will ?et a commission on what is sold for our club house to fix it up inside. Y e also need a doz en or two plain cane bottom chairs. I wish someone would donate these before our next meeting. There will be room for everyone that will come, I am looking for ward to seeing you. I will try and hit the highlights Sunday night we had church and all present met our new pas tor who gave us a good sermon. I wish you all would just make up your minds to come to church and put first things fh*st and all others will be added unto you.. Mr. and Mrs. Coley Arnold, Mrs. L. G. Faulkner, and myself attended a banouet and demon stration at the Tire Sales & Ser vice Company in Raleigh. Monday night, which was enjoyed by all. Mr. Arnold won an electric de froster for his car. Today, Tuesday, was a day I won’t forget soon. I attended the funeral of our beloved North j Carolina Senator, J. M. Broughton, i The biggest and prettiest I have ■ ever witnessed. Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Faulkner went with me. The flowers were beautiful. Onej design was the Pearly G'it° with | a white dove sitting on ton. An | Eastern Star and Mas epic design was also beautiful. We regret losing him very much. Our sym pathy goes to the family. Tonight we held* open house at the Y’akefie’d Baptist Church with a reception for our new pas tor and his family. The Bethany people also joined in with us. We all had a good time. We were glad to have Rev. Carlton Mitch- 1 ell and wife, also Rev. and Mrs. Furring, and several others from Zebulon to come. Also some of the Wakelon teachers. Punch and cookies were served in abundance. We had several solos and a lot of good singing. All enjoyed it im mensely. Mrs. Ola Ferrell spent some time with her brothers, Mr. John and Bill Broughton, last week. Mrs. Ervin Cherry and Mr. and Mrs. .Lester Greene and Mrs. Clarence Corbett were guests of the John Broughtons Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lyner were supper guests of her father Mr. John Broughton, Friday night. Sorry to hear Mrs. Craven Brown is in Mary Elizabeth hos pital. She is the former Hazel Winstead. Hope she will soon be better. We are glad to welcome the Allen Pippins back to live in Wakefield. Come to church. The cancer drive is on the next few days. I am appointed to work this road by here, so don’t be surprised to see me at any time. Keep those pocket books handy for we want everyone to have the pleasure of giving to this great drive. It may be the means of saving your life or others. There is a free clinic at Watts Hospital in Durham open each Thursday at 8 o’clock to the public. When we reach 40 it’s time to take an ex amination and see how we stand. The old saying is life begins at 40. I am expecting mine to begin the 6th day of August, 1949, so wish me luck, will you, please. No kidding I will be seeing you soon.
