Page Eight Farm Drivers Must Be Very Careful “Since farmers own nearly one and a half million trucks or about 30 per cent of all private ly owned trucks in the United States they have to be good drivers for their own safety,” ■■ County Agent John Reitzel of the State College Extension Service declared this week. Mr. Reitzel pointed out that more farm people are killed in motor vehicle casualties than in any other kind of accident. Ac cording to a study made by the National Safety Council, the 7,- 300 farm residents killed in mo tor vehicle accidents during 1947 represented a 27 per cent increase over 1946. The county agent urged all own ers to have their trucks checked at least twice a year by a safety inspection station or dependable garage. An excellent slogan to keep in mind, he commented, is “Lives may be spared, by a truck kept repaired.” He called atten tion to the following additional suggestions recommended by the National Safety Council: Know the signs and road rules and always obey them. Keep lights, brakes, steering mechanisms and windshield wipers in perfect working order. Slow to a safe speed for turns and use proper hand signals. You see a wide variety of attractive merchandise . . . . . . shelves lined with important drugs, chemicals and other medicinal products. You see the pharmacist himself, a friendly person, a reliable merchant, a good citizen. But there’s one thing you’ll never see—and, in a sense, it’s the most important of all. What is it? It's your pharmacist's professional knowledge and technical skill. To get his college degree and to pass the state examina tions required of all pharmacists, he must have a knowl edge of many sciences. He knows thousands of different drugs—their dosage, usage and properties. And he has the practiced skill to com pound them into the medicines your doctor prescribes, the medicines needed to help you guard your health. Get better acquainted with your pharmacist. Trade with him—he’s a man you can rely on. Reprinted from a copy. righted advertisement published by Parke, Davis <2? Company, Detroit 32, Michigan. ZEBULON DRUG CO.
