Friday, May 13, 1949 Pleasant Hill Such a beautiful day, the far mers are really at work. There is no place as dear to me as the country life, although now I am unable to work. So is my husband. It is a great thing to be young. Give of your best to the Master. Give of the strength of your youth. We had a good Mother’s Day sermon Sunday with 224 present ; for Sunday School. The oldest mother was Mrs. Kemp Strick land. I think she is 86. I don’t know who the youngest was. We are so thankful for our mothers. And we are thankful for the past life of the mothers that have pass ed on. Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Mr.! and Mrs. A. O. Puryear and Mrs. j Joe Carter went to the grave of their daughter and sister, Mrs. O. i W. Thorne, who was killed three years ago last December 24. The cemetery is at Pleasant Grove Church near Fuquay-Varina. We took flowers for the grave Sat urday. We are so thankful the Lord let us have her 36 years. We are sorry to report Mrs. Mable Puryear Williford is in Mary Elizabeth Hospital. We hope she will soon be well. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wist and son and Miss Alene Starnes of Dur ham, Shirley and Velma Starnes,! with their husbands, and Mr. Bill Agans of Kinston spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Starnes. Mrs. E. W. Hood returned home Sunday after spending a week with her daughter, Mrs. D. A. Gay, and son, H. H. Hood, in Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carter of Ral eigh and Mr. T. E. Mr. and Mrs. Junior Starnes is able to be out working a little. Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Pearce of near Wendell and Mr. Carter’s other children near by, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carter of Raleigh were visitors at Mr. Bertie Carter’s Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Puryear vis ited her mother, Mrs. Almus Weathers and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Moody, near Roles ville Sunday. Mrs. Mozelle Allen’s little daughter has measles. We are sorry Mrs. A. O. and Mrs. Ruth Puryear and Mr. T. Y. Puryear, Sr., are on the sick list. Mr. James Ellis Horton from Winston-Salem was home with his A— r . We started a Sunday School in a log hut with Mr. John Knott superintendent. We later built a church and I really enjoy ed working with them.
