Tuesday, March 14, 1950 Mrs. Smith Hostess Mrs. Fred Smith entertained her bridge club and a number of guests at her home on Arendell Avenue on Saturday night. Lovely arrangements of jon quils decorated the living room. Prize winners were Mrs. Lois Wall, high for club, Miss Lucy Husketh, high for guests, Mrs. Garland Godwin, low for club, and Mrs. Helen Gregory, floating and “for fun” prize. Delicious refreshments of pecan pies with whipped cream, sand wiches, pickle, nuts and coffee were served. Playing were Mesdames Helen Gregory, Lois Wall, Eugene Priv ett, Howard Beck, Irby Gill, Ben Thomas, Garland Godwin, Foster Finch, H. C. Wade, and Misses Mar ' Lacy Palmer, Marilyn Aider man, and Lucy Husketh. Martin-Brewer Mrs. Jodie Brewer announces the marriage of her daughter. El marie Brewer to Mr. Everett Lu ther Martin, U. S. N. A. F., son of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Martin of Cookville, Tenn. The marriage ceremony was performed on February 28, 1950 at seven p.m. in the First Metho dist Church of Rocky Mount. The double ring ceremony was per formed by the Rev. Sidney Boone. The bride and groom were unat tended and left immediately for East Greenwich, R. I. The bride’s suit was of winter ■white with navy accessories and she wore an orchid corsage. The couple plan to make their home in Port Lyantry, French Morocco. Mrs. Martin is a graduate of Wakelon High School and the Rocky Mount Sanitarium School of Nursing. Hostess at Bridae The Bridgettes met at the home of Mrs. Burt Peoples on Wednes day night. Potted plants and jon quils decorated the living room where two tables of bridge were in play. Winner of high score prize was Mrs. Charles Hawkins, floating, Mrs. C. L. Matheny, and low Mrs. Harry Patton. Delicious refreshments of con gealed salad, toasted pecans, ham biscuit, ritz crackers, crystallized grapefruit peel and coffee, were served by the hostess. Club members present were Mesdames. Francis Wade, C. L. Matheny, Aaron Lowry, Frank Coiner, Charles Hawkins. Harry Patton, and Thurman Murray. Mrs. Bob Sawyer was a guest. Birthday Party Miss Emma Kay Dawson cele brated her sixth birthday with a party on Saturday afternoon at three o’clock. Games were played under the supervision of Joe Pen Gill and Ruth Brown. The dining room where refresh ments of birthday cake and ice cream were served, was decorated with balloons. Horns were given as favors. Guests were Georgia Hinton, Diana Chamblee, Bobby Sawyer, Phyllis Braswell, Sidney Holmes, Betsy Rountree, Betsy Alford. Car olyn Beck, Ann Creech, Pete Creech, Richard Godwin and Mimi Dawson.
