Repeat perform ances will be given Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9. Armed Forces Day to Be Celebrated Here May 20 Mayor R. H. Bridgers proclaim ed yesterday that Saturday, May 20, has been set aside as Armed Forces Day in Zebulon, as well as the rest of the United States, and the occasion will be marked with a display and exhibition by the local National Guard battery. The mayor stated that the proclama tion was passed by the Board of Commissioners at their meeting Monday night. Armed Forces Day replaces the separate birthdays celebrated by the Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force in previous years. It was initiated to help with the unifica tion program now in effect. Capt. Barrie Davis announced preliminary plans for the National Guard exhibit, which will be su pervised by members of Battery A, 113 Field Artillery Battalion. The howitzer demonstration, un der the direction of First Sergeant Sidney Holmes, is expected to be the center of interest. A firing section will work a problem under his orders, and, although live am munition will not be used, specta tors can gain a knowledge of the training required for this work. SFC Percy Parrish, battery mess Brother of Zebulon Woman Loses Life in Crash of Bombing Aircraft Staff Sgt. Jim Allen of Nashville, brother of Mrs. R. L. Hagwood of Zebulon, was instantly killed in the crash of a B-25 North Ameri can bombing plane in southern Illinois last week. Sergeant Allen, who was flying as a regular crew member on the bomber, was based at Perrin Field, Texas. Funeral arrangements are in complete, pending arrival of the body. lon, N. C., Friday, May 5, 1950 Zebul Revue Is Planned By Dancing Class On May 10, 11 Mrs. H. C. Wade will present her pupils in a dance revue on two consecutive nights, May 10 and 11, at eight o’clock in the Wakelon School Auditorium. Admission will be 25c for children and 50c for adults. The revues have been outstand ing in the past and this year prom ises to surpass other years in va riety as well as in the beauty of the many costumes. In addition to the regular chor us routines, the revue will feature novelty numbers, Hawaiian danc ing, and Nursery Rythm. Chamblees Entertain Wakelon Senior Class At Barbecue Supper Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Cham i blee entertained the Seniors, | teachers, and several guests, at a | chicken barbecue in the yard of i their home on Wednesday evening. Mr. Chamblee was presented an annual by the seniors in recogni tion of his long years of work on the school board and in the field of education. Mr. C. V. Whitley, Dean D. B. | Bryan and Mrs. Bryan of Wake Forest College, Mr. Randolph Benton, Superintendent of Wake County Schools, and Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Davis were guests. At the conclusion of the supper Mary Sue Long presented Mr. Chamblee with a copy of the 1950 Wakelon School Annual, which is dedicated to him. Freddy Beck Winner Os Cub Scout Award The cub scouts held their month ly meeting Tuesday night at the clubhouse. Drill was held, after j which the scouts enjoyed a trea- ! sure hunt. Joseph Temple found | the treasure, a baseball. A new cub scout, Stephen Combs, was initiated. Freddy Beck was awarded the prize of a baseball glove by the scout master for his rabbit box. The project for this month is building a bird feeder. A good attendance was present of both parents and scouts. Plenty of Fish Mr. and Mrs. Sam Croom went fLhing last week at Theron Mart in’s pond. Rotarians to Play Donkey Baseball Once more the Rotarians of Middlesex are going to tangle with those balky little donkeys, this time in a fast and furious game of baseball. The game will be played with the Zebulon Rotarians Mon day, May 15th, under floodlights and promises an evening of laughs, thrills and spills. These are the same Flying W Ranch donkeys that gave the Ro tarians such a bad time in the School Gymnasium. An even livelier game is predicted on the diamond. C. Massey. Baptist Church Plans Communion Service The Rev. Theo B. Davis and the Rev. Robert H. Herring, pastors emeritus vof the Baptist church, j will conduct the Communion Ser- j vice on Sunday evening in the ab sence of the pastor. Special em-; phasis is being placed upon the participation of family groups in the service. The Adult Choir will sing the hymn anthem, “Jesus Thou Joy of Loving Hearts.” The pastor, Carlton T. Mitchell, will use the theme, “Directing Our Desires’’ for the sermon at the morning worship services. The Adult Choir will sing “The Prom ises” by Panchenko-Wilhousky. Mrs. Frank Kemp will sing “The Twenty-Third Psalm” by Malotte. 1 Rev. R. H. Herring, Vance Brown To Lead Zebulon Cancer Fund Drive Beginning this week, a drive for funds for the fight against cancer will be made in the Zebulon com munity, according to Rev. R. H. Herring, chairman of the project this year. He stated that the campaign has been delayed for nearly two weeks so that it will not conflict with other similar campaigns. Chairman Herring said that R. Vance Brown, cashier of Peoples Theo. Davis Sons, Publishers Recreation Group Named by Board On Monday Night Members of Zebulon’s recreation commission were named at the Monday night session of the mu nicipal Board of Commissioners, with seven men and three wom en comprising the group. Ex officio members, who may serve for as much as six consecu tive years, provided they do not sever direct association with the office they represent, are R. W. Liles, town government; Ed El lington, school; Mrs. Ida Hall, ' health department; Dr. Ben Thom as, welfare department. The six members who represent the public at large are appointed ! for one, two and three years. They may succeed themselves, but may not serve more than two conse cutive terms. Members at Large Members at large are Carlton Mitchell and C. V. Whitley, 3 years; Ralph Talton and Mrs. Eva Page, 2 years; Ralph Bunn and Mrs. Eugene Privette, 1 year. No chairman was named for the commission, which apparently will have the power of its own organi zation. No meeting date has been set for its first session. Probably its first problem will be the mechanics of a municipal softball organization, which will utilize athletic facilities at Wake lon School. Ernie Tippett’ Observes 62nd Birthday Sunday Mr. Ernie Tippett of Wendell, Route 2, celebrateu his 62nd birth day anniversary Sunday, April 30, with a barbecue and bruns wick stew dinner in his home. With longer steps being made every day in the battle against cancer, more and more money is needed to continue the research which may save your life, Rev. Herring said. He asked that the people in Zebulon be generous when asked to give.
