Page Four Personal Items Mrs. Mark Wall went to Duke Hospital Wednesday for an opera tion. Mrs. Buck Phillips has returned from Rex Hospital. Mrt. Howard Beck and children are going to Maxton today for a visit of two weeks. Bobby Sawyer had his tonsils removed Tuesday at Tuckers Clin ic in Raleigh. Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Coltrane spent last weekend at Nags Head and Manteo after attending the Dental Convention in Pinehurst. Emma Kay Dawson is still visit ing her .aunt, Mrs. L. C. Horton in Ransomville. Mrs. Joe Pearce is a patient at Rex Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wade and children are going to Morehead City Monday to visit for a few days. Miss Edythe Lee Medlin spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Richardson. Mrs. D. C. Pearce will occupy the apartment in the home of Mrs. Maggie Creech. Miss Margaret Bullock of Dur ham visited Mrs. James Creech last week. Mrs. M. E. Shamburger of Rich mond, Va. is visiting her parents, the Pittman Stells. Mr. Josie Chamblee and daugh ter, Mary Ella, of Richmond, Va. visited relatives in Zebulon last weekend. Mrs. Merritt Massey and Mrs. Riggsby Massey spent Monday in Creedmoor visiting relatives. Mr. P. H. Massey is spending this week in Columbia, S. C. at tending a joint meeting of the District Conservationists of North and South Carolina. Mrs. P. H. Massey spent Tues day in Apex with her sister, Mrs. B. P. Pearson. Mrs. J. W. Palmer and daughter, Peggy, of Baltimore, Md., spent from Sunday until Tuesday with her parents, the W. L. Simpsons. Mrs. M. D. Terry is with her sister, Mrs. J. K. Lamm of Wilson, who underwent an operation Mon day at Woodard Herring Hospital, and is critically ill. Mr. Joe W. Chamblee and daughter, Miss Marietta Chamblee of Richmond, Virginia, visited rel atives in Zebulon last weekend. On Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lee and family of Smithfield, Mrs. F. R. Conyers and Miss Mild red Conyers of Rocky Mount, Mr. and Mrs. John Terry and Jack, and the D. D. Chamblees of Zebu lon visited with them and the Ex um Chamblees at the Chamblee family home. Herring en tertained at an outdoor supper Wednesday evening honoring Mr. Claude Cook. Supper was cooked and served in their beautiful gard en. Hamburgers, baked beans, tossed salad, corn sticks, pickle, apple pie with whipped cream and coffee were served. Present in addition to Mr. Cook were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Screws and Mrs. Bernice Screws. Hold Fish Fry Mr. and Mrs. Dighton Fiddner entertained at a fish fry Wednes day evening at their home. Tables were spread in the back yard and supper was cooked at the outdoor fireplace. The menu consisted of trout, french fried potatoes, slaw, hush puppies, tea and des sert. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Appen zeller, Mr. and Mrs. Malbert Smith and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Davis, Leary and Ann. Lewis Bond Drive Opens On Tuesday of this week in a radio address over WPTF, Mrs. Kerr Scott officially opened wom en’s participation in the state in the 1950 Independence “E” Bond Drive, which will continue until July 4th. A Liberty Bell, an exact repli ca of the Liberty Bell in Inde pendence Hall in Philadelphia, Pa., has been sent to Raleigh and was dedicated at 12 o’clock noon in front of the County Courthouse, when Gov. Scott spoke and of ficially launched the State’s par ticipation in the 1950 “E” Bond drive.
